Throwing some dimes: League rules may keep Perk & House from playing

Once in a while, someone else’s article catches my eye. Sometimes, it’s because the article is so spot-on I wish I’d written it myself. Other times, it’s because the article enlightens me with something I never knew. Still other times, it’s because I disagree with whatever’s written. No matter what the reason, I dish it off to another writer to make his/her point. You know, throwing some dimes.

1. Chris Forsberg shines some more light on the C’s injury brigade, and why the NBA might have a part in keeping Eddie House and Kendrick Perkins out against the Heat.

Rivers sounded less optimistic about Perkins and House, considering league rules about players with fevers, especially in light of the H1N1 this year.

“The league has really pressed upon us that, if a guy has a fever, he has to stay away from the team, because he’s contagious at that point,” said Rivers.

2. CSNNE’s A. Sherrod Blakely tells us Kendrick Perkins was successful in his quest to have a technical foul rescinded.

The New Year is off to a good start for Kendrick Perkins. Tim Frank, the NBA’s vice president of basketball communications, confirmed that one of Perkins’ league-leading 10 technical fouls has been rescinded.

The technical foul that’s no longer on the books occurred on Nov. 14 at Indiana. Perkins’ technical foul count might drop even further if he’s successful in appealing his last two, at Golden State on Dec. 28 and at Phoenix on Dec. 30.

3. Paul Flannery writes a great piece about why the Celtics picked up Rasheed Wallace.

Along with the losses, the injuries are piling up just like everyone expected them to at some point this season. It was only a matter of time before the 30-something players started getting hurt, and while nobody thought they would happen en masse like they have now, it was still an expected part of the 82-game process. For that, you need insurance and that’s why they went out and got Rasheed Wallace.

This is the reason they gave him three years at the full mid-level exception. Sure, they got him to help the second unit, and to make them a deeper and more complete team. But the reason the Celtics targeted him and put on the ceremonial full-court press with all of the Big Three serving as recruiting coordinators was for moments like this, when Garnett can’t play.

4. The Basketball Jones is looking for people to buy tickets to its first live show.

Yahoo! Sports has an NBA blog, Ball Don’t Lie.  Ball Don’t Lie has a two-man show called The Basketball Jones.

The Basketball Jones is conducting its first live show in honor of its 500th episode in Toronto (yes, sorry, THAT Toronto), and is looking for people to buy tickets to the show.  Unfortunately, there might not be too many NBA players there.

5. Zach Lowe illustrates the three routes Boston can take as the trade deadline looms.

(Please, not number three.)

6. Finally, the best news of the day: NBA Jam is coming back.
