Cartier Martin Called Up
The Golden State Warriors have called up the Iowa Energy’s Cartier Martin. Martin, a 6’7″ 220 lbs. Power-Forward who played for Kansas State, is expected to be with the Warriors in time for tonight’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. While good news for Martin, this isn’t great news for his team.
Why, you ask? The Iowa Energy, at 15-5, are the best team in the D-League right now and one of Maine’s top rivals. On Tuesday evening Iowa plays the 10-9 Sioux Falls SkyForce, then have back-to-back games against the 9-9 Dakota Wizards this Thursday & Friday. Sioux Falls, you’ll recall, seems to have the Red Claws’ number.
Without Cartier Martin, this may turn into a difficult road trip for the Energy. Martin has been a major contributor to the team as their third-leading scorer, averaging 14.4 PPG. With a busy schedule this week, the Energy won’t have the time to find an immediate replacement for Martin, and will instead have to move up one of their bench players to start. Whether they will find another long-term solution remains to be seen.
This is the time of year when the creativity of D-League coaches and GMs becomes paramount as their rosters are impacted by the needs of NBA clubs.
