Marquis Daniels wants to resign with the Boston Celtics
Via Green Street:
Marquis Daniels has seen enough to know that he likes where he is.
In spite of spending the majority of his one-year contract on the sidelines with a thumb injury, Daniels already knows he would like to re-sign with the Celtics this summer.
“The locker room is great, it’s a great atmosphere, the coaching staff, everything is good,” he told WEEI.com prior to the Celtics – Heat game, despite a recent claim from Rajon Rondo that the team was having chemistry issues. “So it’s something that I’d like to be part of. Hopefully it will work out. If not, then I have to deal with everything that happens.”
Despite Daniels’ feelings, if I had to guess I would wager that Daniels won’t be back in Boston next season. Unless he is willing to again sign for a bargain deal (Daniels’ $1.9 million, one-year deal is considered to be well under market value), the Celtics will struggle to afford the 6’6″ wingman.
With Rajon Rondo’s contract extension set to kick in and the Celtics needing to make some serious decisions regarding Ray Allen’s future in Green, I’m just not sure how Daniels’ salary will fit in. After taking a pay cut to chase a championship this season, I expect he’d like to cash in on free agency in the summer.
Whether he ends up staying or not, it’s nice to know that he wants to be in Boston.
