At one point or another, you’ve made fun of Glen Davis’ weight. I’ve done it, too. Hell, I probably do it every single day. I probably have done it a lot more than the heckler in Detroit that Davis flipped out on.
And now Doc Rivers is doing it too. You might think it’s bad that Davis’ coach would joke about his weight, but I just find it funny.
After discussing the enormous ovation Davis received when walking into the New Orleans Saints parade, Rivers couldn’t help but take a shot at his wide-body power forward. (Via the Boston Herald)
“Yeah, well, they thought he was a float. Sorry, I couldn’t resist,” Doc Rivers joked. “I saw him come back into the hotel and I could just hear the voices of the crowd rise, and there wasn’t anything coming around the corner. This is just a great sports town.”
What was the ovation like? Rivers explained it to the Boston Globe:
“I was standing there when he was walking in and the crowd noise . . . they were going crazy, and there was nothing coming around the corner as a parade.
“I could hear the crowd, so I assumed Drew Brees was coming up. No, it was Glen Davis.
“This is a sports town, and I think they remember what he did at LSU. He took them to a Final Four and I don’t think people forget that.’’
Davis has been looking for a nickname.
Maybe we should just call him “The Parade Float.”
