Buyers beware: Mikki Moore will be healthy for stretch run

Mikki Moore’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, has told NBA Fanhouse that the former Celtic would be ready to play by mid-March, after a bone spur had sidelined him since December.

But even after that there will be hope for at least one team that needs more depth in the post. Big man Mikki Moore is on the mend..

Moore’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told FanHouse on Tuesday that Moore, who had surgery Dec. 18 to repair a right heel spur, should be fully healthy by mid-March and ready to return to the NBA.

I’d like to send a word of caution out to the reported “four to five teams” that have already called about Moore:

Save your cell phone minutes.

Moore was nothing short of awful for Boston last season. He’d commit his first foul before he even checked into a game, had no clue what in the world a defensive rotation was, and wasn’t at all a reliable offensive performer to make up for it. I hope the Lakers or Nuggets sign him — it would make them worse.

After Moore’s pathetic excuse of a 2008-’09 season, I have no idea why a team would ever sign him this season. Because he started 20 out of 23 games for the Warriors? Well, he averaged a whopping 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds during that span. If you want an indication of how much the Warriors valued Moore, you don’t have to dig far: They cut Moore — despite his guaranteed contract — so they could retain the rights to Chris Hunter. That’s right, THAT Chris Hunter. The one you’ve probably never heard of. He of the 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds career averages.

The only reason I can see a good team wanting Mikki is for his six fouls — which will be gone very, very quickly — or for his towel-waving abilities.
