Pop the bubbly, ladies and gentlemen. Your Boston Celtics have made the 2010 NBA Playoffs.
With last night’s win, the Celtics clinched a playoff berth.
Of course, after a 23-5 start to the season, it was inevitable. Plus, they’ve got bigger fish to fry than a playoff seed. But it’s nice to be in, I guess.
Regardless, making the playoffs weren’t what these Celtics were designed to do. They were assembled to make a run at another championship, and anything less would be a disappointment. As up and down — and, mostly, down — as the season has been, what the 2010 Boston Celtics will ultimately be judged by will be their playoff performance.
As of now, things are looking up. The Celtics — despite losing all four games to the Hawks during the regular season — hold the playoff tiebreaker over the Hawks as long as Atlanta doesn’t catch Orlando in their division (which is unlikely, as the Magic are 3.5 games ahead of Atlanta). They seem to be peaking at the right time, and are finally showing the ability to beat teams, good or bad, at home or on the road.
Enjoy the stretch run, and the good play. It’s nice to enjoy being a Celtics fan again.
