Rasheed Wallace again cries referee conspiracy

Ray: "Sir, could you please just watch his hand? I believe he might be striking me with force that isn't allowed by NBA rules." Rasheed: "F*ck you, you motherf*cking c*cksucker! Eat sh*t and die, a*shole! I porked your fat wife last night... b*tch."
Some things never change. Some great examples are the sun rising in the morning, Krispy Kreme donuts tasting delicious, and my mom shrinking t-shirts in the dryer (sorry, mom). And then there’s Rasheed Wallace and his referee conspiracies. Those don’t change, either.
Rasheed is back at it again, this time saying certain referees try to bait him into technical fouls. (Boston Globe)
“At times I know they’re out there baiting me like the other night in Game 1 with those two quick fouls,’’ Wallace said. “I know that certain referees were trying to bait me to get a tech. You could see it coming from a mile away. Like I say, I don’t like to be cheated. I can deal with a loss. I can deal with playing bad. I can deal with getting my [butt] busted. I just don’t like to be cheated. Bottom line.’’
Apparently, it’s like a game. “I bet I can force him into a technical first!” “No way, I’ll just call two quick fouls on him and he’s bound to blow up!” “Let’s just both try to get him to get a technical as fast as possible, it’ll be more fun that way!” “Yeah!”
That game between refs, if you listen to Rasheed, is played almost every night. But there’s something else in play this series, something a bit more sinister… the Wade factor.
“That’s one thing I always try to tell the guys,’’ Wallace said. “We also have to look out for the Wade factor. You know how that is, with the TV ratings and all this. Not taking away or saying that he’s not a good player, don’t get me wrong, but I mean, come on. You know what it is. It’s about the business game as opposed to the basketball game.’’
Rasheed makes fair points, but he also complains to referees so often that his comments lose their sting.
Chris Forsberg has a message for Rasheed: It’s time to put your money where your mouth has been all season.
But don’t think Rasheed is all about complaining about refs, bricking threes, and talking about getting ready for the postseason. He’s also funny.

If you read Tim Donaghy’s book, Sheed may have a legit beef. It seems that the refs make bets with each other as to who can give the first tech, who can call the first foul, who can hold out longest to give a foul, etc, etc. It isn’t a far stretch that with a guy like Sheed that they bet on who can give him a tech first. In that case, maybe they are baiting him. I imagine that is what was going on when they gave Perk a T for the look on his face in a NY game awhile back.

The only thing about that is that it’s Tim Donaghy’s book. Nothing he says holds weight, at least to me. He is trying to use his illegal actions to make money, and it sickens me that he’s succeeding.
That said, I’m with you. It’s possible some refs have it in for Sheed, but even if they did a lot of it is his own fault. Sheed never, ever stops complaining about calls.

I was about to leave a comment about Donaghy’s book but Shirley already went there. The book is right on que with what Sheed is saying in both parts.

Agreed, but can’t trust Donaghy. Still, can’t wait to hear him on your show.

I don’t see Donaghy as trying to make money on his illegal actions at all. I think he got caught up in an addiction that he couldn’t beat but I don’t believe he ever fixed a game. I think the integrity of the game was and still is important to him. Read the book. The FBI investigated all his accusations against the league and they were satisfied that everything he said was the truth. He passed a lie detector test. Now he is trying to help others with gambling problems. He’s really not a bad guy, he just got caught up in some bad things.

The integrity of the game was important, but he bet on NBA games as an NBA official? I don’t see how that co-exists.
Not making money? He wrote a book, and is reaping the benefits of being caught in one of the worst scandals in professional sports history. When you buy a copy of that book and read the rubbish he writes, some of that goes into his pocket.
He’s a joke, and I don’t think his words hold any weight. Everything he says might be true, but I don’t believe him one bit. He has zero credibility.

I suspect that a sizable percentage of us fans have believed for some time now (much longer than Donaghy) that pro-basketball refs have deliberately slanted the game. Personally, I don’t think that they control it– they just often (not always) favor certain players with “star appeal,” and certain big market towns. It is, as Wallace says, “the business game.” This doesn’t mean that an opposing team can’t win in that situation– just that they have to play “uphill,” as it were. It is harder. That, I suspect, will be the C’s big problem this year– they will have to play a few games uphill. After all, didn’t they just win a championship?
Also– from a business POV, LA versus James is the best possible outcome– does anyone really think that there is no pressure on the refs to steer the finals to that match-up?

I’m completely with people who suspect that NBA referees slant games. After Donaghy, it’s hard to argue that isn’t true. Besides, it only makes sense for the NBA to want big markets in the Finals and to slant game accordingly.
Still, I find it difficult to believe anything that comes out of Donaghy’s mouth. While Rasheed’s comments very well could have merit, he’d better serve himself if he kept his mouth shut and didn’t say anything about the referees or to the referees.
