Charles Gaines knocks out Chinese basketball player

As far as punches go, this one is pretty lethal. As the Chinese basketball player, Du Feng, laid on the floor in what almost looked like a body bag, the crowd reportedly almost broke out in riots. While it looked like Du Feng might be dead, he only suffered a light concussion.
If you ask me, Du Feng shouldn’t be surprised that he got hit and he shouldn’t even be mad. It wasn’t a sucker punch, as Du Feng was in Gaines’ face, and it wasn’t unprovoked, as Gaines only began the punch after getting head-butted in the face.
While the results were horrible, especially for Du Feng, Du Feng was the one who escalated things. Gaines, clearly, wasn’t entirely blameless, but at least he didn’t do it unprovoked.
No matter who you blame, it was an absolutely vicious hit.
UPDATE: Neither player was suspended for his role in the altercation.

There were rumors (unsubstantiated) that he was in a coma for half an hour, and if you look at the women on cell phones they think he’s dying.
It’s weird, though, because the punch wasn’t even close-fisted.
