Call me old-fashioned or simply crazy, but I think the Celtics should be bad-mouthing the hell out of Tom Thibodeau right now. Don’t talk him up, don’t give him a single compliment. The man is far too valuable a defensive coordinator to lose. For Thibodeau’s sake I’d love to see him get a head coaching gig, but this ain’t about Tom Thibodeau. It’s about me and my beloved Celtics, damn it.
The key, of course, is to bad-mouth him subtly. You can’t alienate him to the point that he wants to leave, ya know? Just talk a little subtle crap about him. You know, don’t say Thibodeau choked like Shooter from Hoosiers in his one opportunity to coach for an extended period of time this year — just say Thibodeau has a little Mike Brown in him. Again, Thibodeau’s too good to let walk. It’s not about HIS well-being. It’s all about my beloved Celtics.
Brian Scalabrine’s doesn’t understand that. He’s going about it all wrong. He’s saying good things about Thibodeau. (Chicago Tribune)
“That’s the thing about Tom: He relates to all of us, and we have a lot of strong personalities,” Scalabrine said. “It’s not an easy thing being a coach in the NBA because players are always skeptical. You have to know exactly what you’re talking about because if you’re wrong for one second, players will get on you.
“Tom’s attention to detail is top-notch. And it’s more than all the stories you hear about him watching tons of film. It’s his ability to go over film and then teach it. He does a really good job of explaining what we need to do, and also being open to things the players see.
“As much as I’d hate to see him go, Chicago would be an unbelievable fit for him.”
What the hell are you doing Scal? It isn’t f*cking time to be complimenting Thibodeau. We want him to stay in Boston, not go. You should know better than this, Scal. We don’t care that he’s easily the most qualified assistant coach in the NBA, and the most accomplished too. We don’t care that he’s deserved a head job for years. That’s not what this is about. It’s about my Celtics, damn it. My beloved Celtics.
