Somebody’s gotta tell the mayor he needs to brush up on his sports. A few weeks ago, Mayor Menino called “Varitek splitting the uprights” one of the greatest moments in Boston sports history. Now, he’s calling David Stern “Donald Sterns?” My girlfriend never played basketball, never watched basketball before I force-fed it to her and, well, she’s a girl, but even she knows David Stern’s name.

And “Donald Sterns” wasn’t the only thing Menino said that probably made Stern blush (if Menino gets struck by a bolt of lightning, we’ll know why). He also said of the officiating, “”You just can’t take control. You ruin it for the fans. The referees aren’t supposed to be the show. The players are supposed to be the show, but sometimes the referees want to be the show. That’s unfortunate.”

Hey, Boston’s gotta counteract Phil Jackson’s mind games somehow right? If Doc Rivers’ complaints aren’t enough to change the calls this series, the mayor’s got not choice but to get involved.
