Big Baby’s drool and the play that went with it

This one time, when I was about 12 years old, I fell asleep in the car and woke up with my face firmly planted in an Olympic-sized swimming pool of drool. Even then, I don’t think I drooled as much as Big Baby did last night.

But, if there was ever a play to drool about, wouldn’t this be the one? Big Baby forced a Shannon Brown miss, dove on the floor after a loose ball (and almost put a crater in the court), staggered to his feet, raced downcourt and finally followed Tony Allen’s ugly missed layup with an and-one that put the Celtics up seven points in the fourth quarter of a must-win playoff game. I don’t know about you, but I’d say that’s something to salivate over.

In fact, this play might be my favorite of the entire season. The effort required by Baby, Ray and TA epitomized Celtic pride. Plus, it’s got to make you laugh that — while everyone else on the floor was hustling his ass off — Sheed lollygagged and couldn’t even make it to halfcourt by the time Big Baby had made his and-one. Oh, Sheed.

So what’d you like better? The play or the drool? I take the play in a photo finish.

baby has been our mvp this series, matter of fact this entire post season. he’s contributed even more than he did last year, nobody else on the celtics has been as consistent as him. rondo etc may have bigger impacts, but typically when baby doesnt play well/get minutes, we dont win.

Big Baby’s been huge – no pun intended, but kinda intended – off the bench, but I think Rondo’s undoubtedly been the MVP of the playoffs.

Rondo was a no-show last night. And actually most of this series other than Game 2.

The effort isn’t there from what I can tell, when he rebounds, gives that extra effort and pushes the break he’s unstoppable.

But his lack of defensive intensity, and inability to get back in transition in Game 3 is what let Derek Fisher go off. So in my mind, he’s far from the MVP of the Celtics team this series.

Agreed. I meant the entire playoffs. I couldn’t even tell you who would be the MVP this series. It’s a different star every night.
