Rasheed Wallace retiring?

The Celtics would miss Sheed, but it'd be nice to shed that fat contract of his.

According to Doc Rivers, Rasheed Wallace is seriously contemplating retiring before next season. (Green Street)

“You know, I don’t know if Rasheed will ever play again,” Rivers said. “You know, he’s one of them. I think he took that out on the floor with him. I think he is thinking about retiring, and I thought you could see that in his play. He was dying out there. When he got the cramps and the strains, he was just trying to figure out a way of staying on the floor.”

We finally learn to love Sheed and now he may never play another game in the NBA. So it goes, I suppose.

Sheed’s contributions were lost in the loss, but he played one hell of a game. As badly as he played during the regular season, Sheed was terrific in the playoffs. He really did have that extra gear he always told us about. When the big money was on the line, Sheed was a warrior. I’ve completely forgotten everything Sheed did in the first 82 games this season. In the postseason, he quickly became one of my favorites — and, even more importantly, he became reliable.

P.S. – This team could be drastically different next season. And it sucks.

Completely agree. But I think that game made it obvious that the tank has ran out for Sheed. His body is just giving out on him, and let’s be honest, a lot of it has to do with his habits. It’s hard to play mid-late into your 30s when you follow up every game slinging back a couple brews, spend most of the season woefully out of shape and refuse to do do the little extras (see: everything Ray Allen does) to keep yourself healthy.

Definitely. He either needs to start working to get himself in tip-top shape or hang them up. Older bodies can’t handle that. Still, he earned a nice place in my heart this spring.
