Kendrick Perkins out until December or January

Torn ACL, too? Damn, son.

Due to the torn ACL, MCL and PCL he suffered during Game 6 of the NBA Finals series I’m still unsuccessfully trying to forget,Kendrick Perkins will be out until December or January. (Note: Yes, he tore the ACL too.) [Boston Herald]

The Celtics center said last night he has been told not to expect a return to action until late December or early January as the result of major knee surgery scheduled for next Wednesday.

Perkins will undergo major reconstructive surgery to repair tears to the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee – all the result of an awkward landing with an offensive rebound during Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

The Herald also reported that Perk hyperextended his knee in Game 1 of the Cleveland series. What a tough, tough bastard.

Come back well, Perk. I can only take solace in two things: 1) Perk doesn’t need much athleticism to succeed. Torn ACLs are destructive to certain guys’ games. Perk should be okay without as much lift. He didn’t exactly rely on that in the first place. And 2) As I mentioned before, Perk is one tough son of a gun. He probably wanted to play Game 7 on crutches. He’ll do everything he can to come back ahead of schedule.

P.S. – The Celtics really need to sign a big man. It wouldn’t exactly be ideal to start the season with Luke Harangody as the first big off the bench.

P.P.S. – Perk had this to say about the offseason (ESPN): “It’s been weird,” said Perkins. “Every day it’s been different for me — different trade rumors, guys may opt out or whatever it may be [and] worried if your coach is coming back. Sooner or later, somebody is going to have to speak up, whatever it may be. It’s going to have to come to an end sooner or later, that’s how I feel about it. But it’s been tough the last few days.”

Who do you think will be the best replacement for Perk? I mean, someone we can afford, someone who won’t hurt our chances of being contenders next season. Be realistic.
