Hallelujah. Paul Pierce has re-signed with the Boston Celtics.
Life just wouldn’t have felt the same if Paul Pierce had been playing basketball somewhere outside of Boston. (Boston Herald)
The club has reached agreement with its captain on a new contract, according to sources. The deal is said to be for four years, with only the first three fully guaranteed.
The papers cannot be signed or officially announced until next week. [...]
The numbers were not available, but Pierce will in the 2010-11 season make significantly less that the $21,513,521 he was scheduled to receive. That will aid the Celtics’ position versus the luxury tax.
Four-year deal, with only three guaranteed? Sounds about right. Well done, Celts, and welcome back Pauly. Was there ever a doubt? Pierce is a Celtic for life.
Ray, you’re next.
Update: Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports is reporting that all four years are guaranteed. That’s a shame, but it’s still nice to have Pierce back.
Another update: Pierce’s deal isn’t quite done. The argument seems to be about the fourth year. It still seems like the deal will happen, though, once the sides iron out whether that fourth year is guaranteed. For what it’s worth, I vote that the fourth year should be a team option.
