At the end of Game 7 the game I still can’t speak about without crying, while we were all trying to suffocate ourselves with the nearest pillow, Larry Bird was fast asleep.
His Celtics ties are still important to Bird, but he didn’t have that same emotion when they failed to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals last month.
Bird missed part of the Finals because he was over in Italy scouting. And he fell asleep with the Celts leading in Game 7, only to wake up and learn the news.
As sad as it makes me to think that Bird no longer cares enough to stay awake for the deciding game of the NBA Finals, I can’t get mad at him. It’s Larry Legend people. Short of murdering the Big Three or cutting off Rajon Rondo’s legs, Basketball Jesus has a pass from me for the rest of his life.
