Rajon Rondo’s agent should be fired
A few games into the season, Rajon Rondo signed a contract extension worth five years, $55 million. Ya know, Brendan Haywood money. (Yahoo! Sports)
The Dallas Mavericks have reached agreement on a six-year, $55 million contract to re-sign center Brendan Haywood, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.
Haywood came to Dallas in the middle of last season in a trade that also delivered Caron Butler and DeShawn Stevenson to the Mavericks. Haywood averaged 8.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks during 28 games for the Mavericks.
With Erick Dampier’s contract not guaranteed for this season, Haywood figures to play an even more prominent role for the Mavericks.
If you had $55 million around to spend on a basketball player, how could you possibly pick whether you offer it to Rondo or Haywood? I mean, Rondo’s an All-Star and the best player on a team that went to the NBA Finals and everything, but Haywood averaged 8.1 points and 7.4 boards last season! And he’s huge! It’s just too close to call.
Back to reality, though, Rondo’s agent should get fired. There’s no doubt Rondo would have earned a max contract this offseason if he hadn’t signed the extension, but instead he signed for Brendan Haywood money. And Danny Ainge? Somebody get that man a raise. While all those other GMs are tossing absurd money at decent players, Ainge is playing chess. Jermaine O’Neal at two years and $12 million sure looks pretty while sitting next to Haywood at six years and $55 million.

And what about Boozer and Kevin Durant having the exactly same new contract (80 mill/5 yes.)?

Durant is one of few guys in the league who’s underpaid at a max contract. Lebron and Wade are too.

But don’t forget, when Rondo signed the deal he was not an All Star nor had he shown the consistent ability of being one of the best PG’s in the league.
If they had not gone to the Finals and Rondo had not had a good season, then Danny would look like a fool for giving him a big contract and people would be talking about blowing up the team.
As for Danny, a man who’s not afraid to gamble on what he believes. He saw in Rondo what others didn’t and it payed off. Now he’s done it again. He definitely needs a raise.
This will not be the last of Danny’s slick moves. I have no doubt that he will try to lock up Perk at a bargain deal as well.
Think of the cards he has in his deck. Perk is coming off an injury, won’t play almost half the season, and there could be a lockout next year. Perk would be wise to take an extension this year, and no doubt Danny will try to do a deal in the “Hayward” money range, but dip below it due to “injury concerns”. I could see a 5 year deal around $40 mil being presented to Perk to start and him likely taking it, even though he’s probably worth more.
Same type of situation with Davis. All the cards on the C’s end of the table. Extension worked out before the season’s over probably around 3-4 years $18-24 mil. Somewhere around the Odom range, even though Odom SUCKS!!!
I think they’ll resign TA, probably at 2 years, maybe 3rd year option around $4.5 mil. That’s fair I think for a guy who’s been pretty inconsistent for most of his career. That’s somewhere around what Dhantay Jones got, but I’d think Danny goes for less years to keep the Cap clear in 2012.

tbh I think Kendrick is overvalued because of his playing with the Big 3. To the Celtics he is worth $10 mil a year cuz we need a solid post defender and screen setter.
Without the big 3, a larger role in the offense would would reduce his value as his liabilities are highlighted and his strengths diminished (a bad team doesn’t desperately need low-post defense)
An 8 mil or 9 mil contract is fair.

I disagree about Rondo. Everyone knew Rondo was a rising star. He had owned the 2009 playoffs. Knowing how many teams were going to have cap space this summer, it made NO SENSE for him to re-sign so early for $11 million per year. Some team would have undoubtedly thrown max money at Rondo this summer.
About everything else, I agree.
