Surprise, surprise: Marquis Daniels not likely to return

In what might be the shocker of the century, Marquis Daniels said yesterday he isn’t very optimistic in a return to the Boston Celtics. What, you mean he doesn’t want to come back to another year of being underpaid, riding the bench, and lowering his value to any other team? Weird.

Now a free agent, it’s unlikely that Daniels will return next season.

“I’m just looking to go somewhere where I can help out,” Daniels told CSNNE.com on Wedensday. “If it’s starting, coming off the bench, I just want to go somewhere and help.”

When asked about the likelihood of him coming back to Boston, Daniels said, “I’m open to listening and to hear from anybody. I just want to go somewhere and help.”

Daniels has no ill will towards the C’s for how things went during his lone season, but he added that it was a “tough situation” to deal with.

I still don’t know what in the world went wrong with the Marquis Daniels era. He was a huge help at the beginning of the season, he was a very smart player, and he wasn’t Tony Allen — things were going great. Then Marquis got hurt, TA become Bizarro TA and Marquis morphed into a black, dreadlocked version of Scal. And now he’s headed somewhere else.

He just lost all his confidence with that injury. When he came back, he just could not find his role with the team. It really felt to me like he was pressing anytime he was on the floor, trying to make something happen, trying to be that guy we all thought he’d be. Once that happens, and you start pressing, and stop just taking what the defense gives you things spiral.

I still think Daniels is a great player, he’ll be back and be a solid contributor again, it just wont be in Boston.

You’re probably right. Basketball is a huge confidence game.

Great news! And please stop bagging on TA. I’d rather have TA than MD, Scal, Finley, Robinson, Janning and all the other bench stiffs. TA can defend and when given minutes has produced well in many games.

I’m not bagging on TA at all. He surprised the hell out of me last year with Bizarro TA.

I like brewer as a player, but I’d rather have more shooting off the bench.

Veterans minimum—Flip murray—can give the c”s that playoff scoring and defense off bench—while giving them another guard who can play some point—-

        Brewer and Murray

        Barbosa and Butler—

Its close i just think brewer has the most upside considering he is only 25 and has playoff experience on jazz

I’d rather see Rasual Butler or Kyle Korver, two guys with nice shooting strokes.

i think barbosa could be a much better player in Boston then he ever could be on suns b/c of the defensive system we have—-he culd become a complete player in Boston—-6″3 with a 6″10 wingspan—big time speed and quickness—-has all the measurables to learn from Rondo how to lock up—-

The only problem is he may not be able to adjust to the slower pace. Phoenix’s style suited him perfectly. Will he be able to operate in a more halfcourt-oriented offense? I don’t know.
