Antoine Wright or Damien Wilkins, anyone?

Barea: "The C's want you? Shit, they must be desperate."
With Tony Allen now out of the picture and Josh Howard nothing more than a possibility, the Celtics have reached out to… Antoine Wright and Damien Wilkins? (Boston Globe)
The job security and a chance for an expended role swayed Allen from the only organization he has played for. The Celtics could have re-signed Allen to a contract without salary cap constraints because they owned his Larry Bird rights.
The Celtics now must find a veteran defender at a low price because they are over the salary cap.
There are a handful of desired free agents, but salary will be an issue. Boston has reached out to former Toronto guard Antoine Wright, and former Minnesota swingman Damien Wilkins also could be a consideration.
Let’s just say Josh Howard is looking a lot better now. Howard could smoke twelve joints straight to the face, hobble around on his torn ACL and get arrested for choking out whoever’s singing the national anthem minutes before a game… and still be better than Antoine Wright and Damien Wilkins. Combined.
I continue to hope Danny has a master plan. Don’t let me down, Danny. Don’t let me down.

Unless he’s devised some new drug to make Avery Bradley grow 6 inches and be able to play SF, I don’t see what the plan is here.
Tony Allen was our best option, and I simply do not understand why they were afraid to pay him 3mil and change in 2013. I get you want cap room… but come on.

What I don’t get is why they didn’t offer him a two-year deal that blew the competition away. Give him $9-or $10 million over two years. Keep him around and maintain cap space for two summers from now all at the same time.

Their already a luxury team, and as generous as Wyc is, asking him to have to pay 10mil+ to keep TA for the next two years would be crazy. He has to pay that contract twice, once to TA, once to the league, so if you up the ante to say 5-6mil. You have to double that contract each year. No chance in hell Wyc is willing to do that for a bench guy.

I don’t know. Wyc has never, ever been shy about doling out bucks if he thinks it’ll help the C’s win.

i agree wright and wilkins suck—i think they just didnt want tony back because the shooting is so bad, u cant have him and rondo on floor—and the rookie bradley might struggle with the shooting at first—-
Josh howard is a way better option then those 2—
Im still trying to start that Marvin williams Rumor—–Danny can u hear me—-

I’m still loving the Marvin Williams. I hope Danny Ainge is a big fan of your comments.

Marvin Williams makes way too much money as a backup swingman, IMO. His contract which he signed last season, if I’m not mistaken, was 5 yrs about 40 mil. That leaves 4 yrs and about 32 mil left on his deal. He’s a solid player and would be a good backup to Pierce, but playing only about 15 minutes a night…too expensive.

your looking to short term this could be the future at the SF spot for the celtics and he will play more than 15 minutes, defintly in the regular season, where the veterans will rest, and thats a vital part to gaining that home court in the playoffs—he is making 6.7 million next year i see no problem with that

First and foremost DA needs to find a lock-down defender capable of annoying (because you can’t stop) Kobe and LBJ. Then this wing needs to have some rebounding skills and an offensive game capable of shooting out to the three/slasher type, etc. I still think Rudy Fernandez at 6’6″ fills the bill but I am not sure that he is the best defender. If he can defend then he’s my choice. Options are limited at best.

The limited options are why I don’t understand why they wouldn’t re-sign Tony.

What about Sheed for Anthony Parker and Moon?

Would be an improvement from Tony, and contracts end within 2 years. Not ideal, but a step in the right direction.

I wanted them to sign Moon instead of Daniels last year, I love his game.
I guess if Cleveland is really looking to dump salary, it might be possible, but seems like a stretch there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are looking to dump salary — they’re gonna suck anyway. But they better hurry up and win a title before Lebron does.

This reminds of when we let Posey get away, I always felt that move would cost us a title and it may have this past june. Now we have TA, another guy coming off the bench and locking down KB and LBJ and we let him go…I think you’re right Jay, 2 years at 9 million and TA is here..

I don’t know if this blog is a rival to your own or not but this is an interesting though. What if we traded Sheeds expiring contract to the T-Wolves with Big Baby and got Big Al back?

It looks like Big Al to the Jazz is almost a done deal. I’m not as sold on Big Al as a lot of Celtics fans. He’s a hell of an offensive talent, but he couldn’t guard a soul in the post, isn’t a good passer and can’t stay on the court. As I was writing this, I’m pretty sure he injured his knee.

damien wilkins would be a great pick up for the C’s! he is not a terrible player he’s just been on bad teams…i respect you guys opinions and passion for celtic bball, hell im a die hard as well, but when you look at and know the game all of you have to admit that damien wilkins is WAY more skilled than tony allen. and ususally what happens is when guys get on better teams and play with better players they shine. IMO

Damien Wilkins is not as skilled as Tony Allen, nor is he as athletic. He DOES have a better basketball IQ (so does my 2-month-0old cousin, of course), but Wilkins is nowhere near a great pickup. I doubt he would have played a single second for the Celtics last season.
