Celtics interested in Ronnie Brewer

I cringe every time he shoots a jumper, but Brewer is a solid player.

Ronnie Brewer is the latest name mentioned as a potential Celtic. (Sports Illustrated)

Chicago, Boston, Portland, Utah, Washington and Cleveland have expressed interest in free agent swingman Ronnie Brewer, league sources told SI.com.

The 6-foor-7, 227-pound Brewer averaged 8.8 points in 58 games last season. After being traded from Utah to Memphis in February, Brewer suffered a partially torn right hamstring that limited him to five games with the Grizzlies.

I get what the Celtics are trying to do. They’re trying to replace Tony Allen with the only guy in the NBA with an uglier jumper.

In all honesty, though, I like Brewer. He’s athletic, he plays a little D and his basketball IQ hovers somewhere well above the Tony Allen line. But Brewer won’t sign for the minimum. Danny Ainge is going to have to be super creative this summer. Hop on it, Danny. With every day that passes I get more nervous that Tony Gaffney is going to be our first wing off the bench. And I’m only half joking.

he jumper is not uglier than Tony—-and at least he has an excuse with a elbow injury as a kid that doesnt allow him to place his elbow straight. I dont think we can get him, im saying bulls or jazz on this one

Maybe not uglier, but that thing ain’t pretty. The only way it works is sign-and-trade.

They are also interested in Barnes and he said he’d like to come here or the Heat, but that the Heat have more depth at his position.

Boston’s a better fit for Barnes and now that Utah got Bell they don’t really have the money to offer Brewer anything more than Boston could in a S&T.

I say get Brewer, try for Barnes and make a pitch to Mason. If we can do a S&T for Brewer and Darrel Arthur, for Sheed and even throw in a 2nd rounder, I think we’re set on our roster once we resign Nate.

That’d be a bench of Nate, Bradley, Mason, Brewer, Barnes, Davis, Harangoddy, Arthur, Erdin, and JO once Perk comes back.

That’d be 15 players. Then we’ve got 14 until Perk comes back, most with the ability to play multiple positions.

Nice mix of scorers, Defenders, slashers, jump shooters.

I think it’d look pretty good to me.

I doubt Barnes will take the min, and Orlando ain’t trading him to the C’s. No way. And your bench is a hope and a prayer. I don’t see how both Barnes and Brewer both come.

No I agree but who’s going to pay him more?

If he wants to get cash that’s one thing but if he wants to win, his options are running thin.

What teams that can compete have money from the MLE left?

I know LA has about $1.8 mil left of theirs. MIA doesn’t get one. ORL won’t give it to him. Utah just spent theirs on Bell, Denver on Harrington…who’s got the MLE, and who would pay Barnes more than a min or maybe $2 mil?

Barnes said he’s interested in MIA and BOS. Do you think MIA is gonna waste it’s cap space on Barnes instead of another frontcourt player to bolster that weak C position? I don’t see them offering anymore than VLM, in which case he can go to BOS.

He may want more money but I don’t see him getting it. He’s a one trick poney really. Those guys don’t get long term deals.

Even if the C’s get Brewer, I’d still like them to try for Mason. He’d be nice for spreading the court.

Barnes said he hasn’t spoken to the Celtics. Here’s the list of the four teams he said he has talked to. http://sportsradiointerviews.com/2010/07/14/matt-barnes-has-been-talking-to-four-teams-this-offseason/
