Pierce: Celtics need a lot more bench help

Pierce: "I'm gonna choke Danny *just like this* if he doesn't make any moves soon." Doc: "Have faith, son. But me too."
Paul Pierce doesn’t sound too pleased with the offseason to date. Yup, he’s just like the rest of us. (ESPN Boston)
“I thought it was a great move picking up Jermaine [O'Neal], giving us an inside presence in case Rasheed [Wallace] retires, but sometimes I’m looking at all the players signing and wish we would get on the ball a little bit. I trust in Danny to put a good team around us, but I’m sitting here watching all these good players fall to other teams.”
Pierce seemed particularly stung by the loss of reserve swingman Tony Allen and suggested the Celtics have “a lot of work to do” in filling out their bench.
“We got a lot [to add] right now,” said Pierce. “We lost TA, we don’t have Nate [Robinson], we might not have Rasheed. We gotta add a bench. We got our work cut out. We need perimeter defense and we need to add a backup point guard to help out [Rajon] Rondo, if Nate doesn’t come back. And we need another big.”
I never thought I’d live to see the day when Tony Allen’s departure was met by so much angst. But that day came and the angst is warranted. The Celtics could really use Tony Allen next season. (Note: It’s still weird to say that.) I mean, wouldn’t you feel far better about the way this offseason has gone if Ainge had just kept Tony? Then they would have been looking at a bench of Jermaine, Big Baby, Nate (potentially), Tony and whatever they would have fetched for Sheed. But now, without Tony, the bench could end up being brutally thin.
Ainge is saying they offered TA as much money as Memphis, but David Aldridge and Alex Kennedy (Hoops World) are both reporting that the C’s offer fell well short. Which is weird because, given the market, Memphis probably underpaid for TA. What’s the truth? Who knows, but really, who cares? The only thing that matters is that TA’s exit is leaving the Celtics far short of a perfect summer… so far.

If DA cannot work a deal involving Sheed’s contract for an interesting swingman or big, I really think we should convince Sheed to come back next season,
Even with his more than questionable work ethics, he was very valuable when it mattered the most: in the postseason and, with the addition of J.O., providing Perk’s rehab goes as planned and he returns to his defense/rebounding standards for the playoffs, we wouldn’t need to rely on Sheed to box out/rebound/get his ass in the paint for extended periods of time like that was the case during the Finals, when we had to cope with Gasol/Bynum/Odom.
In the meantime, we could continue to use his jumper to stretch defenses and his great defense on guys such as Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard..

I bet he will be able to once all the luxury tax details work themselves out. The closer teams get to that line, the easier it will be to ship Rasheed’s contract away.

They may need to get on their hands and knees to beg Quis to stay the way they are going.

I don’t think another team can or is willing to offer him the paycheck we can if Grousbeck, Pagliuca & Co. are okay with that..
I mean.. we own his Bird Rights ain’t it?

Or they could just sign me. I’m 6’6″ 190 and can defend! Sign me Danny! I can be the new Kobe stopper!
Then on the offensive end I’ll drag Kobe under the hoop and pound him in the post!!! LOL!
I’m actually only half kidding. I can run, play lock D, and even hit the three ball! I set my spot about 5ft from half court on the right side of the arc and bam!!!
No one ever guards that far out! LOL! I love people’s faces when that gets burried in their eye!!! Then I just do the Agent Zero imitation by just turning around and walking back like, “I knew it was goin in yo!”
I’ll play at min for the chance to slap Kobe around!

You should try to get in on Adam Morrison’s workout. I bet he’d make you look like an All-Star.

We kind of have a mini bird right on Quis.
We could only pay him up to $2.4 mil this year. He can be paid 120% of last years apy which was $1.9 mil.
It’s the same with Nate. We can offer him about $6 mil or so.

Called the non-bird exception, you can go over cap to sign him, but your limited in the contract you can offer (Like Jeff said, 120%) unlike full bird, where you can pay basically whatever the hell you want.
However, Quis played a full year in Boston, so unless I’m mistaken, they should have full Bird on him. They don’t on Nate, because he only played part of the year in green.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I think the Bird rights only come in after three years with a team.

Matt barnes would solve all the backup perimeter problems, but he would be the anti-NBA player, not to get his first decent career, and play for a championship with a good role, but no money—
Barnes, Wilkins or both
Trade for shaq—he gives us another post player and was very effective in playoffs—vs smaler teams we can play him less—-but vs magic, lakers—he would be a huge asset—stop the clogging the lane remarks—perk does the same thing and has no post game—-shaq will finish those layups that perk misses or gets blocked—-Dannyyyyyyy get it done kid

I’m entirely against Shaq. Entirely. But I would love Barnes.
