Celtics on Rudy Fernandez wish list

(Yup, that’s Dwight Howard who Fernandez just wrecked.)

The only downside to Rudy? He's Olympic teammates with Pau Gasol.

Rudy Fernandez has submitted a wish list to the Portland Trail Blazers consisting of five places he wouldn’t mind being traded. The Celtics are on that list. (Frank Isola, New York Daily News)

The Knicks and Nets are among the five teams on the wish list Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez has submitted to Portland management in the hopes of being traded.

According to a Blazers source, the club is looking to get draft picks in return for Fernandez, who no longer wants to serve as Brandon Roy’s backup. For the Knicks to acquire Fernandez, Wilson Chandler would also certainly have to be included in a trade.

Rudy Fernandez’ list of teams isn’t four but cinco: Knicks, Nets, Bulls, Celtics and that awful team in South Florida featuring LeCon.

What would it take to secure Fernandez? I really have no idea. But his contract only calls for him to be paid $1.246 million next year, with a team option for the following year and a qualifying offer (whatever the hell that means) for the third. Unfortunately, if it’s draft picks the Blazers want the C’s can’t give the most valuable ones.

But if the Celtics can somehow get Fernandez? Man, I would love that. He’s instant energy off the bench, can shoot the rock from outside, runs the wing on the break and is a lady killer at the same time. He had a down year last year, but has been stifled in a halfcourt Portland offense. Get Fernandez running the wing for Rondo and he’d certainly be a better player than he was last season.

There have been some rumors that Fernandez is so disgruntled he might end up back overseas, but this wish list is a sign he wants to remain in the NBA. Let’s hope he gets his wish, as long as it’s in Boston.

Other than maybe the Nets, can any of those teams give valuable drafts picks really?

Knicks are a playoff team, mid 40s wins next year, I’m certain of it.

Nets, well, they can’t be any worse than last year, but who knows. Miami, Chicago, Boston, will be nowhere near the lottery next year.

So really only New Jersey has any shot at “valuable” draft picks in trade. We should make some anonymous phone calls and inform Portland that Oden will never be healthy, and they should trade him and Rudy to Boston for Sheed’s contract.

Mid 40s for the Knicks? Not so sure. They’re desperately thin, both inside and on the bench. I was thinking Oden, too, but they won’t give him up. Maybe roofies will convince them?

The Cs should give next year’s #1 pick and get themselves a quality and proven player. He can be a great addition. Go get’em DA! Go Cs….

      I’m down. Lafayette and a first-rounder? That’d be a steal.

Why do people want this guy? He is an absolute liability on defense, often forcing the Blazers to have him cover the other team’s point guard. Completely one dimensional on offense. He can’t create his own shot nor can he pass. Is there anything he can do that we couldn’t get from Eddie House for the minimum?

He pretty much makes the minimum too. And he’s better at getting his shot off and far better in transition.

Why not just propose a trade of Fernandez and Oden for Sheed a first and a second rounder in seperate years?

If we’re going all in this year to win by resigning all the older players, why not take a gamble?

Danny is not going to get an impact type guy, or someone who should even be in the rotation without taking a gamble. He’s going to have to get creative and bold to get what they need. Make an offer they can’t refuse.

They won’t sell off Oden for any weak offer. I don’t think that offer you’re talking about is one they couldn’t refuse.

They will not give up Oden as doing so means they screwed up that draft (which of course they did by not taking Durrant) and Oden is still young whereby he can still get over the injury iissues and play well for them. An Oden deal would demand a high quality #1 pick not Sheed and mid-range 1st rounders (sorry Sheed!).

    Here’s the question.

    How committed are you Danny?

Enough to send 2 firsts? How bad does he want it?

Maybe not for Rudy and Oden but enough for the right player?

If it was Gerald Wallace, or somebody available, would Danny pull the trigger on something like that by out bidding everyone and daring to be bold?

I’m beginning to wonder what his plan is to rebuild after KG and Ray are up.
