Nate Robinson re-signs with Boston Celtics

Wordaapp.
Nate Robinson has re-signed with the Boston Celtics, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.
I can’t say I’m surprised, as the Celtics pretty much HAD to sign Nate. After all, they can only offer the veteran’s minimum to other players and have a dozen or so holes to fill on their bench. Nate was pretty good in the postseason, and there’s hope he will be even better after half a season and a full training camp to get accustomed to the C’s system.
I find myself almost hoping Marquis Daniels will join Robinson in re-signing. Never thought I’d say that when he was disappearing for the second half of the season, but the C’s still need a lot of perimeter help. (And interior help, too, for those keeping track.)
Maybe Matt Barnes will be next. His “Decision” will come today, he has tweeted.
Update: According to the Boston Herald, Nate’s deal is for two years, $8 million.

Welcome back NATE!
Glad we kept him around.
Leme guess? 2 years $12 mil with a third year team option?
Barnes is going to LA. I’d bet on it.
They can give him the $1.8 mil and they’ll give him 3 years no doubt, probably a third year option, either that or they give him four years to give him the “security” he’s been looking for. Probably an escalating salary.
Either that or it’s a one year trip to South Beach since he’s probably pretty comfortable in FL already.

Yup. I’d be shocked if Barnes chooses Boston. He’s from LA too. But we can hope.

I think barnes is going to LA also but if he comes to Boston for the minimum—-the bench is set and we are stacked—-we just need one more big—i hope his inner hatred for kobe stops that deal like it did for raja bell.
what would you do with that rasheed contract if you had the bench filled in already with Nate, Bradley, Barnes

You might beg Sheed to stay at that point, sign Antoine Wright or Damien Wilkins as assurance on the wing, and head to camp with a pretty solid bench.

I’d wait to see who might become available and hang on to it to get the best value. Maybe send it for a draft pick next year or the year after, to a team that wants to get under the cap.

The other option is wait it out until someone wants to do a bigger trade and you can become a facilitator to make it happen. Then you are in a position to make demands.

Yeah, it could be a good chip still. Would you rather have a draft pick than Sheed next year? The C’s need another big man, since Perk is out ’til February or so.

I’d rather have a draft pick than no one. If Sheed’s going to retire then get something for him.
It’s also not completely out of the question he could retire on a low buyout, sit out most of the regular season, and come back on a vet min near the end of the season, ala PJ Brown.
He may just be looking to get out of the daily grind of a regular season. If he can stay in reasonable enough shape on his own, then kick it into gear for a month, and play short minutes in the playoffs. Could be a valuable 4th big man. It’s not a completely crazy though.

If he files retirement papers though, I think he has to sit out a full season before coming back. And the contract could probably getch something more than just a draft pick. C’s need a big man still for when Perk is out.

I’m not entirely sure how it works, but if he negotiates a buyout of his contract, he’s free to sign wherever he wants (like Finley did last year.)
So as long as he doesn’t file for retirement, and just decides to negotiate a buyout on his contract, he could come back if he wanted to.

The buyout works, but the C’s would probably have to agree to buy him out when they make the trade.

I agree but if you can’t get any player, a pick is better than just a buyout to save money.
Btw, Nate was a 2 year deal at $4 mil! Nice! Good job to keep him at that price!

Definitely. And the two year thing is huge. Ton of money coming off the books in the summer of ’12.

I still think Danny should look into this trade!

I’m telling you man! It would be a win win for everyone!
We get another young rebounding, defensive big man, and a solid wing player, GS get’s out from under the big contract and can build around Curry, Ellis, and Lee, and CLE could buyout Sheed and have the cap exception from Lebron to trade and get CP3 and Okeafor and reunite Scott with CP3, and BOS could throw in a 1st next year for CLE and a 2nd for GS!
Everybody wins!
The C’s get a big, and a wing for Sheed and the other guys get contracts to buyout for cap space and draft picks rebuild!
Then all they need to target is a shooter wing like Roger Mason and they’re instant favorites to come out of the East.
I hate to lose Davis but I think Luke is going to fill his role. Plus he’d be a FA next year and we could get him back anyways if we want to offer him an MLE.
Imagine a frontline of Biedrins, Perk, KG, and JO with Luke, and Erden along for depth and to learn?
We could probably pick up Joe Smith if we needed another corpse who can score reasonably well. Or maybe Kurt Thomas?
No risk, no reward Danny!

Lol at the no risk no reward comment. I’m not exactly sure Danny is looking for a no-reward player. The trade is definitely intriguing, but the problem is that Biedrins is signed through 2014 and averaged 5 points and 7 boards last season.

I agree but I think Biedrins had a bad year partly because he was injured, and partly because I just don’t think he meshes with Nelly’s shoot first, shoot again and when you’re down by twenty look around and wonder what the heck you’ve been doing for the last 47 1/2 minutes!
I hate to lose Davis too, and if they can keep him and still get players to fill out the need (wing positions) then I do it but so far, the last two years, Danny has got plenty of help to spell the frontcourt, in part because he seems to believe that without KG they can’t win, but what happens if Ray or Paul go down this year?
If we don’t have AT LEAST one guy who can be a reliable backup to those two, then we’re screwed anyways. We haven’t had that since Posey left, and guess what? We haven’t won since then either.
Danny has to do something or we won’t be able to win.
We need a wing. No matter what it costs. Without a GOOD one…we can have as many frontcourt guys as we want but it won’t matter.

I might get seizures if I have to watch Biedrins shoot free throws all season.

I don’t understand why people have a problem with dreadlocks. he had a great 1st half of the season then he got injured and TA played out of his mind so he could not get his spot back in time for the playoffs. Then he had that funny looking concussion in the playoffs.
