Celtics still in hunt for Barnes, but…

Take a pay cut, Barnesy. Please.

The Celtics are still in the hunt for Matt Barnes, according to Barnes’ agent, but would probably need a change of heart from Barnes to earn his services. (Boston Herald)

Goodwin, who also represents Barnes, said via text that the Celtics are still in the hunt, but “quite a few” other teams are also standing in line.

The problem, according to a league source, is that the Celtics, like Miami, only have a veteran’s minimum slot of approximately $1.6 million available. Though the Celtics and Heat – teams that are placing a premium on winning over dollars with these luxury minimum opportunities – were thought to be at the top of the former Magic swingman’s list. That seems to have changed.

Barnes now realizes there are still teams out there with surplus cash to offer.

“Wants $. He’s looking for more than minimum agent says,” the source said via text.

If the Celtics still have a chance, and Barnes would fill their need for a rugged perimeter defender who can hit an open jumper, it will be because Barnes changes his thinking.

Damn it. Antoine Wright, how are you doing buddy? You want to come to Boston?

The Big 3 should all be chatting up Barnes and pleading with him to come to Boston. He would get good minutes, help greatly guarding Kobe & LBJ and can shoot the 3 pretty damn well. The question facing him is try and win a ring or go for the $$$. Maybe we get lucky and he decides the Cs will be good for his career, for his next contract (should just sign a one-year deal and then we have Bird rights I believe and he can make much more) and quite possibly helping the Cs get banner #18 and therefore a ring for his effort. Go Cs…and forget Wright!

He’s not coming here for less $. Dont forget how he clashed in the playoffs with some Boston players..I dont see it. I personally dont like what Ainge has done w/ this offseason money management. J. Oneal sucks, Pierce for 4 yrs is awful.

Ray & Nate are both good signing’s, but damn we still need a proven Center backup b/c Oneal cant play a full yr.

I wouldn’t read too far into Barnes’ arguments with C’s. That’s what competitors do on the court. The C’s won’t hold it against him.

if he wants a ring, then his only options should be boston, miami, or LA. LA should be out of the equation because of his beef with kobe and between miami and boston he’d probably have a bigger role and more playing time in boston. so boston should be the most reasonable destination for him…

I think money means a little bit to Barnes.

I haven’t seen that rumor anywhere else. And Bleacher Report is written by unpaid writers with no sources, so I don’t know how that person can be the only one reporting that rumor. It sounds like a load of crap, to be honest.

    @Jeff

So you would have rather he let Pierce walk? Come on dude, Pierce had all the chips, and if anyone deserved the extra year from Boston, it was him.

I can see your argument for Oneal sucking is based entirely on fact, oh wait, then there’s all his numbers last year which would say otherwise.

He struggled against Perk… while he was battling an injury he didn’t disclose. Oh not to mention that Perk is arguably the best defensive center in basketball. Ya, since JO struggled against him he must suck, let’s forget the fact that every other center in the NBA struggled against him too.

If your gonna attack what Danny’s done, at least make an argument other then saying “this sucks, that sucks, danny sucks.”

There’s an imposter in here with my name! LOL!

Quis would serve as a good alternative. He played great D against Lebron earlier this year in that game where he had the flu. Guy is a warrioir and unselfish!

I’d take him back easy! Then we can target Mason, Kurt Thomas, and go for a Rudy deal.

The Big Three and now Rondo too, need to get on a plane and go tell these guys “Boston is where you want to be man, cuz if you go somewhere else, we are going to make you regret it!”
