Matt Barnes continues talks with Cleveland Cavaliers

Tattoos.

Matt Barnes, whose list of free agent teams was once said to be dwindled down to the Celtics, Mavericks, Lakers and Heat, is in progressing talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers. (Brian Windhorst, Twitter)

Cavs had further talks with F Matt Barnes. Interest is mutual. Cavs like his toughness, Barnes looking for PT. Talks likely to continue.

No deal appears imminent, but the Cavs can likely offer him more playing time than the Celtics. Not to mention more money. But, and this is only a guess, I just don’t think signing Matt Barnes is the way to ease Cleveland’s pain.

In other Cavs news, Delonte West is rumored to be headed to Minnesota, where he would likely be bought out. Perhaps West would be interested in the minimum to return to Boston? Just do me a favor — keep him the hell away from my mother.

Why is Cleveland still collecting role players? Matt Barnes is a valuable bench piece for a contender, he’s not going to lift a team to anything.

True. Though even if they still had Lebron, what does Barnes give them that they don’t already get from Jamario Moon, Anthony Parker, Delonte West, and Danny Green. How many 3 and D guys does one team need?

I’m with you. But NBA GMs don’t seem to have much common sense when it comes to roster decisions. But if they did sign Barnes, maybe it would make Moon/Parker avaliable for trade. Not saying they’re my top choice, but they’d help.

Why the hell would we want Delonte West, even for the vet min?

He’s poison with his off the court stuff, and he’s not really all that useful on the court.

He would definitely help the bench and then you’d have to hope two things: 1) He leaves his guitar case in Cleveland. And 2) he doesn’t find any Celtic mothers attractive.

I guess Barnes wants $$$ over the opportunity to get a ring, whether with the Cs or another contender. Agreed re West. Why would Boston want another short guard? We need a lockdown wing defender who can also score and rebound.

West can play the 1, 2, or 3. He wouldn’t at all be perfect, but if the C’s could fetch him for minimum it might be worth it.

Signing West would only slow the developement of Bradley.

He wouldn’t serve a function becasue he is flat out, not big enough to play against the SF’s of the league.

We need a guy with length, like Moon or Barnes. Not another 6’3″ guy who is too small for the 2/3 spots.

Definitely need more length, but Bradley’s development is secondary compared to winning a championship. And West, at this point, is definitely better.
