Ime Udoka in discussions with Boston Celtics

Another in a long line of intriguing free agents.

Add Ime Udoka to the list of scrub free agents the Boston Celtics have had discussions with. Actually, maybe it’s a bit harsh to call Udoka a scrub. He once scored 17.1 points per game… for the Fort Worth Flyers. (CSNNE)

It’s no secret that the Boston Celtics have a gaping hole in their roster for a defensive-minded perimeter defender. And in all likelihood, it’ll have to be a player willing to accept a salary for the veteran’s minimum.

Sacramento’s Ime Udoka may in fact be that player.

Udoka, who will be 33 years old next month, is a player that the C’s have had preliminary discussions about acquiring.

However, his agent Mark Bartelstein, made it clear that no deal is imminent.

“There have been some talks, but nothing close to being done,” Bartelstein told CSNNE.com.

Udoka IS a very good defender, or at least he has that reputation. Unfortunately, he’s all glove and no bat. And by no bat, I mean NO bat: Udoka averaged only 3.6 points last season while shooting 37.8% from the field. On the plus side, if the Celtics sign both Udoka and Larry Hughes, the two could have some very entertaining shooting contests. Okay, maybe entertaining isn’t the right word.

And as a nice little P.S. – Kwame Brown’s agent, who happens to be the same as Udoka’s, says the Celtics aren’t out of the picture yet. My prayers have been answered!

Marquis Daniels would be a FAR better option than this guy.

He’d be a far better option that most of these bums they’re talking about.

The madness isn’t me. It’s Danny talking to these guys. Believe me, I’d rather watch Game 7 on tape than go through a year of Ime Udoka as the C’s primary backup wing. Okay, maybe not that drastic. But close.

i rather trade rasheed to orlando and sign barnes to a 2 year 5-6 million deal…..i think he is worth that money if reddick can get 6 million—-he would be huge for us—-dont just hope that he takes a pay cut—-

Trade sheed for barnes—if barnes is making 5.3 million the trade would work, we dont have to pay barnes 6.7 to trade for him

—and we would save some money then ask rasheed to come out of retirement….

Barnes can’t make more than two million in a sign and trade. Orlando can’t afford to offer him more.

All this talk is depressing, how about Delfino & Ivy in a sign and trade. I think the salaries would match up with Sheeds. Delfino is a 40% 3pt shooter and Ivy has good creds as far as being defensive minded. These two would really help, a solid wing and good backup PG to play limited mins. what do you think?

Please, no. Please. Ivey’s a 12th man type, and Delfino isn’t much better.

I dunno. I’m not too sold on Delfino and Sessions isn’t a need (Rondo and Robinson already signed).

No offense man but if that’s all we could muster from a Sheed trade I’d keep his contract and hope he came back, or just buy it out to have it come off the Luxury tax.

I wouldn’t be opposed to the Nocioni trade if we were able to resign Quis as a slasher and D type guy. If we did that and went for a shooter like Mason, I’d be reasonably happy with that bench. Not as much athleticism as I’d like but it’d be enough I think.

Please Danny, stop patroling the garbage pile and just sign Quis so that we at least have someone we know CAN contribute? THEN, you can worry about going after all your worthless, washed up, no skill type scrubs who either can’t defend or can’t shoot.

I really wish we’d gone after Salmons and tried a sign and trade for Beasley and JO with Sheed’s deal. At least Salmons can create his own shot.

I say we need a backup PG, Nate will play behind RA I think after his efforts in the finals. Made too many mistakes, Sessions would be a good pickup due to being a good ball handler and did I mention he is younger!!! If we can’t get some good new blood we all better hope Sheed does come back.
I agree sign Daniels I liked his game first half of the year, he needs to play though NOT sit on the bench all game.

Rondo plays about 40 minutes a game anyway, and Nate can be good off the bench. I don’t know that they need a backup PG.
