Rajon Rondo lands in Vegas for Team USA tryouts

"That's why they called it Gator Aid."
Rajon Rondo is in Las Vegas and he WILL try out for Team USA. “Just touched down in Vegas,” he tweeted. “Team USA.” I wonder why it was ever in doubt.
By the way, Chris Sheridan predicted Rondo wouldn’t make the team, citing his free throw inaccuracy as the reason. Among those who Sheridan predicted would make the team over Rondo? Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose. Coincidentally, all were sitting at home while Rondo made the NBA playoffs his bitch.
What do you guys think? Will Rondo make the team? Or will his shooting woes, which will be magnified in FIBA play, keep him off?

His issue is that in the international game, shooting is much more important. But as a floor leader and distributor, I think they put him on the roster.

I agree. But Rondo is by far the best pure point guard on the roster and it isn’t like Rose or Westbrook are deadeye shooters.

While I’m a big Rondo fan, I’m almost hoping that he gets cut. Not only will it give him extra rest this summer, it would also fuel him to improve his game getting such a publicized snub. If he does make it, I’ll be rooting him on every minute.

I just want to be able to see him play on that team in August. It’d be more fun.

I don’t buy the free throw shooting argument. If he had sad just shooting, I could understand it. But they’d really pass up his pure point skills, havok inducing defense, and rebounding because of one or two extra missed free throws a game. I don’t buy that.

I can only imagine he meant shooting as a whole. In which case neither Rose nor Westbrook should make the team before Rondo.

I would love for him not to make the team. Rondo needs to rest up for the regular season.

Rondo’s a baby, he’s only 23 years old, he doesn’t get tired. He just pretends he’s tired every once in a while and does that hamstring stretch of his, so people think he’s human. Playing for Team USA would be great for Rondo. He’d play for Coach K–one of the world’s greatest coaches– against solid competition, with all-star teammates. And he still has a chance to take the team in his hands like he did with Boston. He’d come back brimming with confidence ready to be THE MAN for the Celtics. Which is exactly what we need.
