Jarvis Hayes is C’s latest target

Gotta love blurry-ass Scal in the background.

The Celtics have had discussions with free agent Jarvis Hayes about joining their roster. (CSNNE)

As much as the Boston Celtics need to add a perimeter defender coming off the bench, it wouldn’t hurt to add another backup shooter to the mix as well.

With most of the higher-priced shooters off the free agent board, CSNNE.com has learned that the Celtics have had some conversations about one of the best still available, Jarvis Hayes.

Go ahead and laugh at A. Sherrod Blakely calling Jarvis Hayes one of the best free agents still available. I know I got a good chuckle out of that. But the truth is, I’m kind of intrigued by a couple things Hayes IS (scorer, jump-shooter) and a couple things he ISN’T (Larry Hughes and Ime Udoka). That said, I really hope these wings we keep hearing about — Adam Morrison, Hughes, Udoka and Hayes — are the guys Ainge is looking at as 12th men. Because if any one of those four is playing significant minutes next season, the Celtics might as well forfeit the next 82 games. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about NBA basketball over the years, it’s this: You don’t win a ring with Jarvis Hayes as the primary backup small forward. You just don’t.

Sign Marquis Daniels already, this is getting ridiculous.

I’m with you. But why would Daniels want to sign in Boston? I say sign-and-trade his ass for Matt Barnes. Bam, you’ve got yourself Barnes for more money than any other contender can offer. The only drawback is it would help the Magic if Quisy picks it up.

How about pride? If I’m Marquis I’m looking at last year and saying “That was awful, I’m better than that.” And I’m coming back with something to prove.

His season was so bad last year that he’s going to have a hard time convincing anyone to pay him more than the 2.4mil Boston can give him anyway.

So why not come back, play for a contender for 1-2 years, prove your worth a lot more than you’ve shown, and then go for a pay raise in 2012?

See, if I’m Marquis I’m thinking, “Last year was hell. I don’t want to even make road trips to Boston.” No pride here, haha.

marquis just isnt good—his defense is highly overated—he has slow feet—he is very weak, and cant shoot—

Jarvis is solid—only 28 and can hit 3′s defend sf well because he is strong—i would add him, but we would still need a wing that gets in before him on the bench—
but i wouldnt call him a 12th man—

Nate, davis, and possibly another wing or big would play in front of him—he would be more of a 9th-10 guy on team—-

marquis is a career 23 percent shooter from 3……just ugly danny knows he was a mistake—-at least you thought you were gettn a defender….but he struggled to stay in front of any1

Did you watch the first half of the season?

He was the complete opposite of everything you just said.

Doc even said he thought Marquis was the most important part of the Celtics team, when he went down. He’s not a range shooter, no doubt, but he gives you about everything else.

I have no idea what happened to him after the injury, but he did average 14 points a game in Indiana. You don’t become a starter on any NBA team without some talent, he’s obviously a lot better than we saw at the end of last season.

I have confidence he can get it back, and at least there’s some upside, we pretty much know what we’re getting out of any of these other guys, which is to say, not much at all.

I watched more of Daniels after injury—his feet looked really slow, and he isnt a strogn defender—so his feet have to be good—offensivley he looked timid—and was never a shooter at any point in his career—-I think we rather look for a wing who is terrible on defense, but can hit open shots from distance

    Allen…what are you talking about?

Can’t defend? The guy locked up Lebron for 2 quarters last year IN CLE with the Flu…yeah he couldn’t maintain it but who really can? Pierce can barely limit Lebron. Lebron had like 10 points at the half in that game and Quis was ready to colapse because he was so sick.

The guy is absolutely worth the $2.4 mil and he can play the defense we need. That would allow for someone else to do the shooting. Quis simply needs to have a definite role. With a true backup PG in Nate, who can shoot the 3 it will make it that much easier on Quis.

The C’s should give him another chance. He will produce this time, just like the first part of last year.

Resign Quis! We need a wing who knows our system, and can defend!

he was injured and is about to turn 30—and is a 23 percent shooter from 3—his defense isnt steller—i rather take a player who can stay healthy and spread the floor more like Jarvis for the minimum—I will say i saw marquis post injury more—defensivly he looked really slow—but his offense is consistant—he isnt a shooter–look at his career

Quis is a lot better than the way he played at the end of last season. But could he return to good form in Boston? Or does he need a change of scenery badly? I’m not really sure.

You’d rather pass on a guy who: produced early in the season when he did not have a defined role, his coach during the first half of the season loved the way he was playing and he was averaging somewhere around 8 points a game back then, plays good defense, granted he’s not TA on D but he’s not inept at ball handling or on offense either, and can still slash unlike other guys on the team, only to take a guy like Udoka who cannot possibly be any worse on offense, or Hayes who can shoot, somewhat, but probably wouldn’t be able to defend a blow-up party doll.

That’s your big idea? Sounds like a brilliant one!

While we’re at it, let’s see if we can pull a trade with MIN…Sheed for Darco on his new deal! We don’t want to just win! No! We want to win Khan style! (Cue Shatner with the “KHAN!!!”)

Hi guys my name is Danny dum dum Ainge. I like to draft undersized point guards who can’t shoot the ball when I have an undersized point guard who can shoot the ball (nate) — instead of signing an athletic big man (athletic being the key word). I also like to let elite defenders slip away and spend my mid-level on washed up big man with bad knees. Don’t worry guys we’ll be ok because I’m going to bring Scalabrine back and sign another undersized white guy with know athleticism to team with an undersized overweight black guy who has little athleticism. I’m what some people like to call “mentally retarded”. Ok guys. Time to stand around and watch all the great free agents sign elsewhere. Why do we need Barnes, Morrow, David Lee, hell we have Scal. If things really get back we can put Bill and larry back in there. Trust me it will all work out.
    Yours truly,
    Dum Dum Danny.

harsh! What has Danny done for the celtics. You do realize that he’ doomed the celtics in the future. This team will be terrible once the big three move on. They are old and clearly needed to get more athletic. There is no reason to sign Avery Bradley when you have rondo and note who are both young. They needed to get younger down in the box. Whiteside would have given them the athelicism they needed to protect the middle and beat the lakers. Danny had screwed us over and we need to push him out of town. There second round pick was a joke. We have Davis, we didn’t need an undersized four. Danny’s moves are overrated. Lets go through some of them shall we.
Let Posey Leave!!!!! What a moron. If we kept posey and paid him an extra million–and thats all it was we would have two rings. And then he brings in wallace to tie up more cap room. He replaces posey with Daniels, he trades a young and talented bill walker + eddie house, for Nate??? Has he completely lost his mind. Walker is going to be a player. He is a moron. Syop sucking on Danny’s you no what. He’s made too many bad moves. He needs to start packing his bags

Ainge not only won the Celtics a championship, but he also cleared cap space in 2012 so the Celtics will be able to reload. I wouldn’t be so harsh on Danny.
