Marquis Daniels re-signs with Celtics

Quisy is back to change his Celtics legacy.

The Celtics have re-signed Marquis Daniels. I’ll tell you what, it sure as hell beats Jarvis Hayes, Adam Morrison or Larry Hughes. (NBA Fanhouse)

The Boston Celtics have reached an agreement to re-sign swingman Marquis Daniels for $2.5 million on a one-year deal, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told FanHouse on Thursday.

“It’s a good opportunity for him,” Bartelstein said. “It’s a fresh start for him after the injury.”

I’m willing to give Quisy a clean slate. He’s a good player who just had everything go wrong last season. Let him start over. He’ll be the primary small forward from day one and he’ll get the chance to finish some unfinished business. I’m really excited about this, mostly because the other options seemed so bleak.

UPDATE: A bench five of Robinson, Bradley, Daniels, Davis and O’Neal? Not bad. I’m kind of digging it, to tell you the truth. Snatch another wing and a guy like Kurt Thomas and I’m sold on this offseason. Danny Ainge didn’t exactly go ninja, but he’s done enough.

You hit it right on the head, the other options sucked, period.

I like Daniels, he started the season off fantastic, if he can find that form back, this could end up being a great signing.

And it’s pretty low risk, one year deal, reasonable money. Both sides are happy, Daniels knew he wasnt going to get more than 2.5 out there with the season he had. This gives him a year to prove last season was just a fluke, and then get a pay raise next year, whether or not it with Boston or not. Assuming there’s no lockout, of course.

The Battier thing just wasn’t going to happen, and with Barnes gone, if it’s between Daniels, and anything else left at the bottom of the barrel, gimme Daniels. I have a lot of hope that he’s really going to prove the doubters wrong this year.

I’m with you but fuck it, let’s still try for Battier too. Sheed’s contract will still be worth something decent. The C’s aren’t done dealing yet.

Battier would be great no doubt, but I have to wonder if another big man isn’t a greater need now.

That’d be damn nice. But would they give those guys up for just a salary dump? I’m not so sure, even though both Pryzbilla and Fernandez are reportedly on the block.

It’s assuming that they think Oden will be healthy, and aren’t looking for real value in return, but a way to cut salary, and improve the teams position.

It’s a bit of a pipe dream, since Pryz’s 7mil is expiring, and will be a great piece at the trade dead line. But it’s not crazy that they’d consider it, if they have confidence in Oden’s health.

Seems likely some drafts picks would have to be involved too, but I’d have no problem with that.

Oh… I’m sorry I’m still crying… I’ve been waiting for Danny’s masterplan for weeks and all I get is a guy who suffered a concussion after hitting his head with a guy’s belly… call me pessimistic but even though we’re good, the heat aren’t that bad… I hope this is just the beginning of more things to come…

        No question about it.

The guy was a mid level money player in Indiana, with really solid numbers. You just don’t get a starting job, and average nearly 14 points a season without some talent, I don’t care how bad the team is.

He is a far better player than last year. And coming in, with a clearly defined role where he wont have to play the point (since we got Robinson and Bradley now) at all, will do wonders for him.

Docs going to say from day 1, here’s you’re job. Play defense, get to the hoop, hit mid range jumpers. That’s what you do.

Yup. I like that his role will be more defined. He was bouncing around last year, from point guard to shooting guard to small forward. His minutes fluctuated from game to game, he got injured, and he never got a rhythm. I expect a lot better this season.

ugly, if we dont trade for a wing, or shaq—we really didnt improve in the offseason—

Daniels to me isnt cutting it—-trade rasheed contract for someone—or we arent getting another banner—-

Daniels cant shoot our problem wasnt defense it was offense—we need wings who can stretch the court—to me this is disappointing but i understand that the better wings like rasual butler, wilkins—prob will get more money then we could of offered

damnnn Danielzz—thats so uglyyy—Dannny im disappointed

You guys are sleeping on Daniels a little. One bad year and you guys think he’s done. He’s been solid his whole career until last season. He’s got a chance to be a nice piece.

not sleeping i just think we need a perimeter player who can spread the floor—daniels is an awful shooter—and i didnt love his defense when i saw him play toward the end of the year—

And it isnt like he twisted a knee or ankle —it was a thumb—i think he is overated highly on defnse—i hope im wrong but if you are banking on marquis being the difference from the bench when compared to tony allen—i dont see it we havnt improved yet this offseason—-lakers got better, heat got better, bulls got better—we are standing still rite now—

Rasheed contract will be the key if we are a better team

How do you figure that? Come on man…

Bulls and Heat obviously got better. Lakers, eh, Barnes is a nice player, but he aint scaring me that much.

Celtics are a better team right now, just because the guys they have coming back will be better than last season. Robinson with a full camp will be that 10-12ppg bench guy they need, Davis will be better since he’s not hurt coming into the season, and will have a full camp to get his rhythm. Daniels, well can’t be worse, and has tons of upside if he finds some of that form he apparently left in Indiana. JO will be far better than Sheed, at least for the regular season.

How are they not better again?

Plus, Sheed’s either coming back or his contract will be put to good use. They will most definitely be better, unless the Big Three falls off that ledge they like to call old age.

Blake and barnes combo is much better than farmer and brown—

Celtics still need a wing and another big body—

If the last two pieces were shaq at minumum cuz frankly with contenders its spurs or celtics that are left—atlanta, lakers, heat, bulls, mavs are all out of picture..(celtics chances increasing)

And Nocioni in a trade for rasheed i would feel great to get a banner—i still think we are 1 significant splash player away—but 2 would be better

I haven’t pressed the panic button yet. I’m still waiting for the offseason to come to an end.

Good resigning. His career #s are 9/3/2 for only 22 mins which equates to 18/6/4+ which is pretty decent, especially if he plays defense and rebounds. To everyone thinking Battier is coming FORGET IT. Houston is not going to make any deals. So let’s get Sheed back and make a trade for Rudy (not the one mentioned above as that sucks). Go Cs…

because the Blazers already said they want something in return. They’re not giving anything away for free so I don’t even think draft picks would make that trade happen. Try this one and throw a few draft picks for either the Blazers or Pacers if you want: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=23axfkx (the Blazers would get something in return and the Pacers want a PG + with the addition of Paul George and Magnum Rolle and other guys perhaps they wouldn’t mind about letting Jones go)

He’s ok, but what’s his role? Shooting guard? He’s not that good as a spot up shooter. He needs the ball to create, and Nate already fills that roll for the bench.

Really all the bench needs is a solid Ray Allen back up, who can knock down shoots.

He’s not a bad shooter by any means. Career 37% from three-point range. I don’t think the Celtics need him, but he’s better than Powe. And the Celtics don’t need Powe either. They already have Big Baby as their undersized power forward.

Look at KG everyone expects him to be a lot better next year. Same for Tom Brady. Not to mention that Powe didn’t get all that much playing time in Cleveland.

Now let’s try to trade for a big man and a shooting guard with Sheed’s retiring contract. If we can’t, time for the players to take them phones and talk crazy ass #30 outta retirement because we’ll need him, especially with the defensive display he can put against guys such as Dwight Howard or Pau Gasol.
