Derrick Rose: “It’s very hard” to defend Rondo

Two of the league's finest. Pause.

Derrick Rose, you ain’t lying. Rose admitted what Celtics fans have known for awhile: Rajon Rondo is damn tough to defend. (But the Game is on)

“It’s hard,” Derrick Rose, who went up against Rondo in an epic seven game series to start off the 2008 NBA Playoffs and is now competing to play on Team USA with him, said about guarding Rondo. “Its very hard. He’s very quick. He’s got big hands so you gotta watch it, he’s very tricky … He’s kinda like a veteran player (in terms of his basketball IQ) and he’s been playing on a good team almost ever since he came into the NBA. (The Celtics) won the championship (in 2008), so he has a lot of experience as well.”

Rose also believes Rondo is in the upper echelon when it comes to NBA point guards.

“He’s one of (the best),” the 2008 NBA Rookie of the Year said. “There are a lot of point guards. All of them are better than me. I’m just trying to get up there. But he’s one of the best for sure.”

Look at Derrick, doing his best Kevin “The Humble Killer” Durant impression.

Anyway, read the rest of the story. It’s a nice piece on Rondo written by a 17-year old kid with credentials to the Team USA training camp. 17 years old, you ask? I know, I asked the same thing. When I was 17 I was egging people’s houses and ding-dong-and-ditching everyone in my neighborhood. Meanwhile, this kid’s a credentialed media member interviewing several of the best basketball players in the world. Not a bad gig.

P.S. – Rondo’s thoughts on the Heat?

“No.” When asked whether or not he was nervous about facing the new NBA’s newest trio, Rondo answered with a more definite: “Hell nah.”“Be nervous why?,” Rondo asked.

“I mean, I’m worried about the Lakers. That’s the team we have to beat. Miami looks really good on paper and I’m sure they’re gonna be good. But they gotta come together as a team. I’m not saying they won’t, but only those guys will tell. Of course they have a big target on their back with LeBron, Wade and Bosh, but its still a team game and its gonna take five guys.”

“They ain’t done nothing yet,” Rajon added with a chuckle. “They ain’t done nothing.”

Rondo’s lying though. There’s no way he’s worried about the Lakers.

Hey Rondo, a word to the wise…unless you’re lying which you almost certainly were…it’s time you started worrying.

The simple fact that Lebron has, twice, almost single handedly beat the C’s, and now he has Wade and Bosh…it’s time to start planning for MIA not LA because if you don’t beat MIA, you won’t see LA.

As for LA, you better be prepared for BOS or MIA because that’s who’s coming out.

Oh and by the way Laker people…both those teams would beat LA, and this year one of them WILL beat LA, if LA get there that is.

My favorite was Bill Simmons predicting the Heat wouldn’t win more than 50 games next year… even though Wade won 48 almost by himself last year.

LOL! Gotta love Bill man! He’s the ultimate biased sports writer but you can’t help but love him because he knows he is.

I can’t believe the people who think CHI will get the top seed and that MIA won’t win 60 games!

Lebron won 65 on his own practically a couple years ago! Now he’s got Wade and Bosh! Please. Only way they don’t get 60 wins is if CHAR or ORL get CP3, then that division would be such a dog fight that they might be just shy…maybe 58 wins.

If ORL scored CP3 and Okeafor, they’d be really dangerous! They could put Okeafor where he belongs (PF) next to Dwight, Lewis at SF, Pietrus would go to SG because they’d have to give up VC probably, then CP3 at PG.

        They’d be really loaded.

I’d like it if the C’s could get Von Wafer and then try a trade for Priz and Rudy. That’d be a real good bench with all their needs filled.

I love the Priz/Rudy trade, as long as Priz is healthy.

Why be scared, like he and so many others have said, they look good on paper, but they havent played a game yet, it takes a team. I think people are counting their chickins before they hatch.

They’re going to be damn, damn good. I’m not saying the Celtics should be afraid of them or anything, but they should probably be afraid of them. That team has a chance to be incredibly dangerous.
