Celtics in lead position for Rudy Fernandez
The Boston Celtics are currently in the ‘lead position’ in negotiations with the Portland Trailblazers for Rudy Fernandez, according to a source. They have been in serious discussions since yesterday.
Other teams interested including New York and Chicago, but the Celtics are apparently getting the first shot, thus allowing one to assume they are a preferred destination, either in terms of desirability for Rudy or trading pieces for the Blazers.
Get on it, Danny. Either get Rudy and Przybilla for Sheed and Lafayette or get Rudy for Lafayette and a pick or two.
If the Celtics do end up getting Rudy Fernandez, they will have one of the deeper benches in the league when Kendrick Perkins returns. Think about that second unit. Nate Robinson, Fernandez, Marquis Daniels, Glen Davis, and Jermaine O’Neal. That could be the best second unit in ball. I’m giddy just thinking about it. Work your magic one more time, Danny.

we need pryzbilla in this trade. dont see why the blazers would want him besides loyalty reasons etc. just signed camby and odens coming back

I guess it all depends on how much Portland trusts Oden to return healthy. He only played 21 games last year and missed his entire rookie season. Some guys are just injury plagued. Pryzbilla seems to be the Oden insurance policy. However, if we snag Pryzbilla in the trade, I’d be very happy. He’s a great shot blocker, solid rebounder, and would be a perfect back up center for JO while Perkins is hurt. Plus, Perkins tore his ACL. We really can’t count on him coming back 100% healthy right away.

yea exactly. oden was great when he played though. i think he should be ok next season. the blazers do have camby as a backup and aldrige is big enough to take some centre mins against smaller teams. if oden comes back pryz will get 0 mins so hopefully theyre interested in dumping his quite big salary

Oden was great when he played? When, in high school? He was okay at best in the NBA.

Have to disagree with that, he was killing for about a month last season, then blew out the knee.
I had him on my fantasy team, his stat lines were impressive.

11 and 8 is a decent center. He’s got potential, but he’s only decent. And he’s always injured.

we dont need the center—we need rudy— we can still get shaq for minimum—and still have rasheed wallace contract to trade—that would be a crazy scenario–

I don’t think Shaq has any plan of signing for the minimum, while Rudy is the centerpiece of the trade, Pryzbilla would be a good addition as well. Plus, his contract comes off the book at the end of the season, so your basically taking a one year flier on the guy.

That would be insane if all that happened. The Celtics might be TOO deep.

We don’t need Pryz so forget about him. We need Shaq. Hope this happens but for the lesser players and the pick. Go Cs…

That right there would be a better bench than NJ’s starting 5 last year! LOL! Get it done Danny!

Lol. I think my high school bench was better than NJ’s starting five last year.

Uh, Devin Harris and Brook Lopez are borderline all stars. Courtney Lee is a solid player.
On paper, that team wasn’t that bad, they just lost their way last year and it snowballed. No leadership, no motivation, no heart.
But there was talent there, no question about it Harris and Lopez are outstanding players.

There was talent, sure. But that starting five, talent or not, was miserable.

As weird as it seems, Priz might be a better fit than Shaq. Except, ya know, he was injured all of last year.

negative, shaq will fit in–b/c KG will have him in check—-he will be fueled by kobe and heat hate—accept his role, and play very well—he gives us a low entry that we wouldnt have wit any othe rbig out there—-talk all you want about pick and roll defense but all centers struggle—and you stop pick and roll with team defense which shaq would have the best team defenders around him in league—
every1 sayn perk will just jump him in line-up once he is cleared i dont think he will—no reason to rush perk bak off a bad injury—he is very young—give him a light load when he comes back so both onela’s will get their 20 minutes and be very effective

But you also stop pick-and-roll with a strong hedge and recover, which is why KG does such a great job. I’m not sure Shaq even knows what hedge and recover means.

just wondering, how many years does rudy have left in his contract?

Rudy has three years remaining on his contract. This year he is paid $1.25 million, increasing by about a million for each of the next two seasons
