Highlight Reel: “Big Baby” Davis Offseason Workout on NBA Fit

Big Baby (@iambigbaby11) tweeted this morning that he had just completed a 5:00 am workout. This clip comes from NBA Fit, a program on NBATV about the workouts of various NBA players. Big Baby’s offseason workout aired on the show a few seasons ago. Big Baby may be a goof-off who clowns around, but he puts in the work, too. Just check out the video if you don’t believe me.

Celtics Summer Forecast: What to expect from Marquis Daniels

Today’s question for the Celtics Summer Forecast on ESPN Boston: What can the Celtics expect from Marquis Daniels?

After an up and (mostly) down season, Marquis Daniels is back for a second season with the Boston Celtics. The signing was an example of mutual need: the Celtics needed a backup small forward, and Daniels needed a chance to prove to NBA executives that last season was abberation.

Most of the Celtics bloggers predicted that Daniels would improve on last season’s letdown and produce a better overall season. Jay wrote:

Jay King, Celtics Town (8 points, 3 rebounds, 18 minutes)

For better or worse, Daniel is the first wing off the bench. I’m not sure yet whether that’s good or bad; he is a tough dude to read. There’s no way around it, he was bad last season. Really bad. But it’s a new year and I’m willing to give him a clean slate. I expect more from him than last year. I just don’t want to get my hopes up because the prevailing image of his 2009-2010 season is of him rotting away on the bench (or him getting concussed by Dwight Howard). Predicted averages: 18 minutes, 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists.

What kind of production do YOU think Marquis Daniels will have this season?

Big Baby’s 5:00 a.m. workout

Get after it, big fella. The Celtics are going to need Big Baby and Rondo to take another step forward this season, just in case age gets the better of the Big Three. If Big Baby can bring the heat on a nightly basis this season, the bench could be bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

On another note, Big Baby also tweeted that he wanted to punch his doctor. It was a joke, I assume, but maybe it’d be better if Big Baby just kept quiet. With him, punching people isn’t really something to joke about.

Nate Robinson’s football highlights

I just showed my little brother Nate Robinson’s football highlights and his response was brief: “I would never, ever punt to that dude.” Me neither. And I wouldn’t have played him at defensive back, either, which is where he played at Washington. He would have been scoring touchdowns on my squad.

It’s the defensive mindset that wins championships

A picture is worth a thousand words.

I was reading Henry Abbott’s post on TrueHoop about Basketball Reference’s findings that improving a team’s defense is more important to winning a title than improving the same offense. Like Abbott, I started to ask myself why. Shouldn’t adding four points to your own score be worth the same as taking four points away from the other team? Doesn’t that only make sense? But it’s not, and statistics prove it. As Sheed might scream like a wild man, numbers don’t lie.

Jermaine O’Neal in very good shape

Draft Express’s Jonathan Givony was invited to Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, where a number of NBA players work out. While there, he watched a pickup game that included Jermaine O’Neal, Tayshaun Prince, Baron Davis, Tyronn Lue and our dear friend Patrick O’Bryant, among others.

Givony was impressed with Jermaine O’Neal’s conditioning.

Since the C’s signed Shaq, Jermaine O’Neal has been the forgotten man. He shouldn’t be: the man was a hell of an addition.

By the way, there’s no way Sheed played pickup once last summer. No way.
