Shaq: “The Celtics would be a good program”

Shaq: "In a couple years, I'm going to go to Boston and make you taste my ass." Kobe: "Yum."

We’ve heard reports, but you know what they say: I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull’s ass, but I’d rather take a butcher’s word for it. Now, we’ve got the butcher’s word. Shaq wants to play for the Celtics.

When Jimmy Kimmel brought up the Celtics, Shaq said, “The Celtics would be a good program.” Kimmel followed it up by saying, “That’d be a good place to go,” to which Shaq responded, “Yes it would.”

I said this in the comments section the other day, but it bears repeating: The Celtics aren’t just the best fit for Shaq; they might be the only fit. Don’t believe me? Okay, let’s go through the definite contenders one by one.

LA – Umm, Shaq has kind of burned any bridge that he once had with Kobe. I can’t imagine them asking each other how their asses taste while playing for the same team. Pause.

Miami – Shaq didn’t burn any bridges with a single player in Miami. Oh no… he burned bridges with the entire organization. Remember when Shaq was traded from Miami a few years ago? Nobody was spared as Shaq fired parting bullets at coaches and the front office and, of all people, poor little Chris Quinn.

Orlando – Don’t they have Dwight Howard? And Marcin Gortat to back him up? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Boston – With Perk out and Sheed probably retiring, the Diesel could fill a definite role. The C’s desperately need another center, especially for before Perk returns. Plus, the Celtics aren’t quite done putting together a 2000 All-Star team.

Is there really any other contender? You could say the Spurs, but they looked two or three steps slow last season and didn’t turn it on in the playoffs. The Mavericks? Consider me unsold. Oklahoma City? Still too young. Portland? Nope, not yet. Atlanta? Umm, did you by any chance see the playoffs? Denver? Not quite.

If Shaq wants to win a title and play a role, Boston’s his best opportunity. I just hope he leave’s that all-navy blue outfit at home.

Keep your pride, leave your ego. Huge difference, I’d say.

Keep your pride, keep your ego, as that’s what makes Shaq – Shaq Daddy. He can play in the Celtics system and be a role player accepting less as long as he gets to bash on Kobe. Maybe it’s letter writing time again, huh Jay? Remember, all egotistical NBA players and they are all guilty of that even KG/PP/RA use that ‘flaw’ primarily when they are young and still wet behind the ears. Shaq sure seemed the team player last year and if he comes to the Cs then I would expect the same as he would be playing with peers of All-star caliber and he’d also deliver some severe damage to the Lakers front line come the Finals. Go Cs….get Shaq signed!!!

But the Celtics need him to accept a small role. Shaq’s ego — which is almost as big as he is — could keep him from doing that. No way I’m writing a letter for Shaq. I think I’d rather have Rasheed. And it’s different, because he was a team player last year but it was while he was a starter the entire season. Can he really accept backing up Perk and playing less minutes than Jermaine O’Neal? That’s an enormous question mark.

You want both of those dudes? I don’t see Sheed coming back to split time with Jermaine and Shaq off the bench, and I don’t see Shaq signing to do the same.

Shaq can back up Perk and start while he’s away. JO & Sheed can play PF (back up KG) and center if Shaq/JO get in foul trouble. This just makes so much sense whether or not you’ll write a letter. Having the capability of multiple interchangeable line-ups would be awesome thereby lessening the wear and tear during the mostly meaningless regular season. It’s all about winning a title and Shaq wants to win more than Kobe (he’s down 1). The Cs are his best chance to do that, especialy if/when Sheed comes back. What a front line that could be!!! Go Cs….
