Report: Celtics sign Delonte West

Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald has just reported that Boston Celtics are reuniting with guard Delonte West.

A league source confirmed moments ago that the former Celts guard is prepared to sign a free-agent deal with the team.

According to a source, West will sign a non-guaranteed contract and will be on hand when the team begins camp this fall.

Update: Danny Ainge is excited about the pickup. (ESPN Boston)

“I think Delonte helps our club a lot,” said Ainge. “He was one of the toughest guys for me to trade. I’d do it again, of course, but we really liked Delonte when he was here. Even though we knew the issues and the challenges he needed to take care of, we also think Delonte is in a better place today, than he was the day he left. He wasn’t perfect, but we still liked the player.”

yea….. Welcome back Delonte. You have increased the ghettoness and thuggery of the Celtics by just so much and I love you for it. Just stay away from Rondo and Ray Allens mamas!

Bad move. I hope he gets cut as I’d rather Bradley get the minutes. Otherwise, what’s the point of drafting and developing players? And I thought we needed a wing defender? Go Cs…

The guy can defend the 1, 2 and 3 spots…what are you talking about we were looking for a wing defender? That’s exactly what we got! He’s also a wing scorer who’s just as good beyond the arc as Rudy people! Only West’s done it for longer. Rudy had one year, West has been consistent on the court his whole career.

We got a backup wing who can shoot and defend. Yes he likely will cut into Bradley’s mins but when Quis goes down, we’ll need the depth anyways!

Good pickup. Delonte will be fine in Bean town. CLE was a totally unorganized team without discipline, or leadership, and a WEAK head coach. Boston is not!

Rudy is 6’6″ and can guard SFs. West can’t. Go Cs…

West is a better defender at the small forward position than Rudy. Don’t forget, Tony Allen was only 6’4 and he was a lockdown defender. Delonte is tough, smart and relentless. He can make plays, as long as he’s in the right frame of mind.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pumped about this pickup. Delonte is immediately, on the court at least, the reserve I most trust.

I always saw him as the best bench gaurd the cavs had, and they won 60+ games. In the cavs boston series he was the third best player on the team.
