Reporter asks if she can choke Rajon Rondo
This was just your average, run-of-the mill interview. I would have been entirely bored by it if I wasn’t impressed with Rajon; he handled a dumb question (“how has [Michael Jordan] really influenced you as a player over the years?”) like a champ. If I were Rajon I would have said, “Well, umm, I’m a 6’1″ pass-first point guard. Our games are literally nothing alike.” But Rondo handled it with grace. I was proud of his media savvy. Then came the inevitable Miami Heat question and Rondo saying, yet again, that he’s the NBA’s best point guard. Yawn.
The interview was about to put me to sleep when, out of nowhere, at the 2:38 mark, the reporter came out of left field with the question of the century: “Can I choke you now?”
Really, honey? What in the world is that all about? After Rajon awkwardly replied ”no” the reporter said she was kidding, but that’s some bizarre nonsense. What were the video editors thinking, leaving that clip in?
“Bob, our reporter just asked if she could choke out Rajon Rondo in the interview.”
“Sweet, leave it in there. That’s phenomenal TV.”
Here are some questions I’m surprised weren’t her follow-up:
- Can I drop-kick you in the face now?
- Can I pummel you to within an inch of your life with a baseball bat now?
- Can I fart on your neck now?
And my personal favorite:
- How has Wilt Chamberlain really influenced you as a player over the years?
P.S. – Yes, this is what counts for news nowadays. Can the season PLEASE start soon so I can write about basketball instead?

My guess on the reporters said (with out looking at the interview), is that a lot of women (if you don’t realize this), think Rondo is attractive, especially dressed in street clothes.

@Bost Yeah I get that, but she should still have a little journalistic integrity. And even if you don’t believe in journalistic integrity, asking if she can choke him is odd.

What the H—kinda interview was that? Who the H— does she think SHE IS? Nobody cares about her viewpoint, she’s there to find out HIS! Who gives a —-if she’s been in LA her whole life and is a Laker fan. Was that supposed to move him? If she knew anything about him at all she would have known he has the utmost confidence in himself, and Is not intimidated by any other team, or player. So she can go ‘head with her bogus @$$ questions. She acts like she has so much disdain for him as a Celtic, but the b!%$# just had to touch his “BIG HANDS”, right? “Can I choke you now?” NO, HOW ABOUT I CHOKE YOUR SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN @$$!

The correct answer is, “Ma’am, you’re supposed to wait until just before I climax into you to start choking me.”

Glad to see this is what sports blogging has turned into. It’s a light-hearted throwaway quote at the end of an interview, not a threat. If you think ‘Young Hollywood’ should be a bastion for sports journalism, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

LOL. I didn’t exactly call it a threat. Just thought it was funny.

“Lighthearted threat”, & “Funny”? Whatever it was, it was NOT PROFESSIONAL! She is conducting an interview and should have remained NEUTRAL! “The Rondo Bandwagon”? You gotta admit, her words could have made him uncomfortable if not angry. Excuse it all you want, this interview is awful. I don’t need to “look elsewhere” for anything. If any of you don’t like what I say, you have a choice not to read it!
