Highlight Reel: Shaq’s still got a little juice left

I’ll leave you with this: for the veteran’s minimum, the Diesel sure beats Shelden Williams. At the very least, Shaq won’t puke all over himself when Doc subs him into a Finals game.

I find it ironic that we use a clip that is almost exclusively of Shaq doing nothing more than catching a pass in space and dunking to say he has “juice left.”

I mean, it’s not like he’s throwing up hook shots with reckless abandon and showing post moves that McHale would envy. Just saying, watching him do nothing more than be a big target and dunk the ball doesn’t inspire huge confidence.

That being said… offensively at least, all the Celtics really want from him is to be big and dunk the ball. A physical inside presence who, when he gets the ball within 5 ft of the hoop is all but impossible to stop, is exactly what the Celtics needed. KG doesn’t operate down their anymore, and how many times did we watch Perk travel/miss the pass/go into “collector mode” when Rondo got him the ball low. Shaq wont have those issues, so I expect him to flourish in this Celtics system which badly needs an interior finisher to compliment Rondo.

I think the fact that Shaq has 3 HOFs to play with instead of just one is going to motivate him even more and you’ll see an extremely focused and more bruising Shaq this season. He is closer to more rings than with the Cavs and his respect for the game, the Celtic players, and Celtic tradition (remember Russell is one of his icons) are going to inspire him to really bring it harder every night. Shaq can do a lot more than dunk and where his presence is really going to be felt is on the defensive side and that’s where championships are won. Go Cs…3 days and counting!!!
