Boston Celtics draft snubs (and thank God for Larry Brown’s promise to Larry Hughes)

Julian Benbow destroys his piece on Boston draft snubs.

Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo fell later in the first round than they expected. Glen Davis was drafted in the second round. Marquis Daniels wasn’t drafted at all. Even Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge were second round draft picks.

And they all took the snubs the right way.

“It molds you into the player that you need to be,’’ Davis said. “You can take that information and you can take that experience and go whatever way you want to. You can feel sorry for what you didn’t do in college. You can ask, ‘Why didn’t people draft you?’ Or you can take the information and say this is going to be my fuel to get to where I need to go and show these people that when you passed me up, you made a huge mistake.’’

Luke Harangody, I hope you’re listening.

I remember when Pierce went so low, my jaw dropped. It was as if a guardian angel handed Rick Pitino (the coach/GM) a gift from heaven. I thought Rajon was a little too high when the Celts drafted him. Many did not think he would be pick in the second round let alone first. Marquis Daniels was a major find by Dallas. Daniel, however has yet to repeat the sucess he had with Dallas, however.

As for Big Baby, not many gave him credit when he was drafted. I remember when the trade waqs made, many did not see him making the team. finally for Luke, that was a big mistake drafting him. Luke should have never been drafted. He’s listed at 6’7″ but is really 6′ 4″ max. I remember seeing him play a couple years back in the NCAA Tournament. He was guarded by Jeff Adrien of UConn. At the time Adrien was listed at 6’7″ and Harangody at 6′ 8″. Adrian dwarfed Luke and harangody has a dickens of a time shooting over him. otherthan lack of size, his ballhandling leaves much to be desired and he’s not that quick either.

I stood next to Harangody a few days ago. Definitely, 100%, taller than 6’4″. I promise. Also, I don’t remember anybody saying Rondo might not get drafted.

Look it up. I remember that year. It was Boston won like 13 games and in that draft they gave up Brandon Roy to the Blazers for Sebastien Telfair or sometghing like that. I also remember the pre-draft reports concerning rondo and they were not at all positive. then Rondo got drafted in the first round, I was completely floored by that.
