Celtics fall to Hornets, 83-81

Tiny Tim and Emeka Okafor.

No Rajon Rondo, no Kevin Garnett, no problem. Err, I mean, plenty of problems.

Ray Allen missed a contested three-pointer with five seconds remaining, and the Celtics lost by two points, 83-81, to the New Orleans Hornets. The Celtics struggled to score baskets for much of the night (see: no Rajon Rondo), but a 16-0 fourth-quarter run left the C’s ahead by seven points with 6:26 left. From then, they were a lot like my one friend who gets zero girls — they just couldn’t close.

Trevor Ariza hit a three-pointer while Paul Pierce was inside Ariza’s jersey, Glen Davis took (and clanked) a late three-pointer (why? Why???? WHYYYY????????), and the C’s allowed a win to slip through their hands.

I would contribute more, but, well, it’s New Year’s Eve. Have a nice night, everyone, and be safe.

Glen Davis killed the C’s today. I realize he’s probably trying to live up to everyone stating that he needs to fill in for KG — which is why tonight he thought he had to be a scoring machine — but WTF?!!! The first half, he forced one bad shot after another, while keeping the ball out of the hands of Allen and Pierce. And yes, Jay, that 3 point attempt was worse than watching a train wreck. Why didn’t Doc leave the same squad in that raced off to a 15-0 streak to start the 4Q? As soon as Davis came back into the game, they lost that momentum. Someone needs to have a serious talk with Big Baby after this game. He needs to understand his role. The positives on the night: Jermaine O Neal looked good, except for bad FT shooting. Luke Harangody plays with a lot of confidence and was part of that 4Q squad that went nuts. Let him play. At least he’s fired up. And Marquis continues to look good. Why not start this guy at PG? As much as I respect Doc Rivers, I think the C’s got outcoached vs. Orlando and also today, two games they should have closed out.

Too many TOs (6 by PP) and not enough FTs by PP (guess he wanted to shoot 3s (0-4) instead of driving). That’s 40% of his shots from 3 land and he only took 10 shots (why did Davis have more?). And NR, an 81% FTer misses 2. A game the Cs should have won. And Doc needs to stay with players who are making things happen!!! Oh well. Happy New Year everyone…Go Cs…

The assists werre pretty weak too. The hornets got a good. took advantage of an undermanned weaker opponent. Should give NOH some momentum coming into the New year.

TOs also killed them indeed. Another bitching complaint: Whenever the C’s have the ball for a final possession shot, they always have Paul Pierce dribbling and dribbling and dribbling…..WHY?? Today he dribbled off his own leg and almost lost it out of bounds. Against OKC, he got it stolen away, which ultimately lost the game in the final minute or so. Pierce is definitely a clutch shooter in the final seconds, but why isn’t a guard running a play? Did they even draw up a play for the last shot? Ray was hot. Why not have the PG feed him the ball off a series of screens. I’m frustrated beyond belief with this game. Oh well, it’s 9 pm in Los Angeles. Happy New Year’s to everyone in Boston. Hopefully this team will finally get healthy and focused and inspired. GO CELTICS 2011
