Tony Allen can fight

Head-body, head-body, head-body. That’s what Micky Ward, or at least Mark Wahlberg playing Mickey Ward, preached would take down opposing fighters.
I’m not sure if Tony Allen used the head-body, head body technique. But it sure sounds like he beat the living bejesus out of O.J. Mayo. (TrueHoop)
Allen, regarded as one of the toughest guys in the league, tried to avoid a confrontation, but Mayo trash-talked Allen for roughly 15 minutes, criticizing his game, bragging about how he was a better basketball player than Allen, about how he was a lottery pick.
Allen was especially bothered by Mayo’s chatter because they have a friendly relationship. Zach Randolph tried to play peacemaker, telling Mayo to stop ribbing Allen, but to no avail.
Finally, Allen had enough and struck Mayo in the face. He then landed a succession of blows to Mayo’s eye, mouth, shoulder and the side of his head. Mayo was able to get off a swing, but Allen ducked to avoid it and then clocked Mayo once more for good measure.
As Apollo Creed said to the young upstart Rocky Balboa, “Ain’t gonna’ be no rematch.”
What the report failed to mention was that TA took a quick break to foul a three-point shooter and overdribble in the paint.
P.S. – Whenever Zach Randolph plays peacemaker, you know you’ve got some serious issues.

I always thought that the Memphis Grizzlies were not a good match for Tony Allen. Allen is a solid role player that should be on a veteran team.

What’s the point of this stupid story??? TA is a dumb fuck and obviously has insecurity issues and a thin skin. Glad he’s not a Celtic anymore. Go Cs…

@Brad in LA… So it’s OK to beat on someone for a perceived insult or because they’re making fun of him? Come’on. That’s assult and OJ should have sued his ass. Ergo…what I said is what I think. And what do you think the Celtics would have done if the same thing happened? Oh, that’s right they let DW smack VW. Guess the world is fucked up. My bad. Go ahead and beat on whoever wrongs you with words. Go Cs….

I guess you people only follow hoops and not what has been going on in the country this week. Six people are dead because of words by a person unable to control themselves. While TA didn’t use a gun he was unable to control himself. Over words. I wasn’t brought up that way and I’m sure TA’s parents did not bring their son up that way. Remember his incident in Chicago years ago? Where there’s smoke there’s fire and TA needs some anger management help. Go Cs…beat the living shit out of the Bobcats!!! How’s that for anger???

James you really are an idiot. 6 people in this country died because some one was mentally unstable not because words influenced him any way.
Plus O.J. mayo deserved to get hit if he really st there and talked shit on T.A. for ten minutes I am glad T.A. did something about it. This notion that you can sya whatever you want and have no coincidences is idiotic. O.J. said some stuff that was immature and hurtful and he got punched in the face a few times and you no what I bet it will be a long time before O.J. Mayo writes another check he can not cash.
P.S. Never like mayo always thought he was overrated. Drafted to high and baby’ed his whole life.

Cool off James. TA might have some anger management issues but don’t bring politics into something like an argument between two guys who happen to play basketball. It’s really overboard. Whatever happened to the good old days when dudes could get into fights and people didn’t immediately start flying off the handle about how it has some direct link to television, politics, etc.? Lame.

The Tucson shooting has nothing to do with you(James) over-reacting to something TA did. The Tucson shootiing shouldn’t even be compared to TA. Terrible comparison and one hell of an overreaction.

@nate @Bradin LA and @ Nick – Thanks for your comments. I know that the people were not killed because of politics and I never said that. And I did not mean to imply that. But he did not get an answer to a question during an interaction with her in 2007 and now goes after her first? As a symbol of government? Words had something to do with this and it’s not a coincidence. I don’t think approving of TA’s actions is right and while you may think I am over-reacting you are entitled to your opinions, as am I. OJM did not ‘deserve’ to be hit. For what, his words? Now that is idiocy. I guess I lived in LA too long and have seen way too many killings (900 one year) with many over nothing more than words. Sorry I’ll shut-up now. Go Cs…

I nvr said i approved of him punching Mayo, still wrong. I thought you were comparing the shootings and TA punching Mayo and I was wrong. Both wrong and bad. But one of them is far far far worse and tragic than the other and shouldn’t be compared.

Maybe it was a bad comparison but it just seems to me that some people need to remember the old saying about ‘sticks & stones’…etc. Good win but ugly as Jay said the bench disappeared last night. On to more of my more pressing ‘anger’ issues over the Cs lack of rebounding presence this season. -13 again last night. Go Cs…
