Pierce’s MRI is negative; expects to play Wednesday
Paul Pierce, he who shot 0-10 from the floor yesterday, is expected to play Wednesday against the New Jersey Nets. Pierce received an MRI on his foot this morning, but the results were negative. He did not practice today, wearing a bag of ice on his right wrist, and will not practice tomorrow, either. But both injuries — the wrist and foot — have been called less than serious. His foot injury has been termed a bruise.
I’m still not sure why Pierce wore the ice bag; his shooting wrist couldn’t possibly get much colder than it was yesterday. But it’s good to hear his body’s okay, or at least okay enough to play Wednesday night. If Pierce were to miss any amount of time, the Celtics would be, quite simply, fucked. A hypothetical Pierce absence would all but force Doc Rivers to move Von Wafer or Delonte West (who will play Wednesday if he feels no pain during tomorrow’s practice) into the starting lineup, and, well, I’ll just say that would not be perfect. Then ‘Gody might have to play some small forward — and I promise, ‘Gody’s not at all a small forward.
The Celtics are thin enough even with a functioning Pierce. Thank the lord (or Red Auerbach) that Pierce’s MRI came back with no problems.

Wouldn’t hurt to let the rest of the starting five take a night off.

Hey Jay I thought you had aspirations to make a living as a sports journalist. I certainly don’t mind the f word at all–but you might as well say f to your career.
