Corey Brewer names three finalists; Celtics included

http://twitter.com/#!/AlexKennedyNBA/status/42694831461498880

If I were Brewer, I would sign with Dallas. (Note: If I were Brewer, I would also be A) a far better defender, and B) a far worse shooter than my current self. Not to mention a lot taller and approximately the same weight.) The Mavericks have a small forward rotation featuring both Peja Stojakovic and DeShawn Stevenson, meaning there’s a real opportunity for Brewer to earn playing time. Boston, barring injury to Paul Pierce or Jeff Green, doesn’t have the same selling point.

Still, the Celtics are reportedly “focused on Corey Brewer.” Apparently, they hold ” a strong belief that he is the final piece to this championship puzzle.”

Or, he’s a potentially solid 11th or 12th man who would provide depth in the case of injury. Either way, he’s another cheap, low-risk/high-reward player. Count me in, if the Celtics sign him.

    Good chance (if signed) Brewer takes Greens minutes. Mind you I say that with a low opinion of Green and not a high knowledge of Brewer. Guessing we probably need D at the 3 more than scoring and if Baby is out there we need another big so it’s Green or Brewer and rarely both

    Brewer will not be taking any minutes from Green. Ever. Go Cs…

    @Noblejoker

    I think the Celtics made the Green trade mostly to upgrade their offense off the bench, as well as their versatility. Brewer can play defense, but he’s also a liability offensively. I highly doubt Green would forfeit minutes to Brewer.

    The Wizards waived Al Thorton. What if he came to Boston, good fit?

    Nick… Thornton signed with GS. I still prefer Leon over Brewer if he’s healthy. Go Cs…

    Hey Jay, I’m starting to think it might have made sense to keep Perk and added Murphy and Brewer.. what do you think about that?

    James… Why do you insist on getting Powe over Brewer? Brewer is younger and plays good defense. Powe has been a bench warmer on the Cav’s the last two seasons, or at least he didn’t seem to play much. I think Brewer would be a better fit. Explain your reasoning.

    Youth vs Aged. Powe is good defensively if he’s 100% but I doubt that he is. Compared to Brewer impressive defense at the same time healthy. Nuff said.

    If I were Brewer I’d be leaning towards the Texas teams as well (more minutes and similar odds to win the title). I’m not sure what his use is here now that we have Green but I would’ve love to have gotten him and kept Perk, but no one has a crystal ball and Perk found himself a good situation and so did the team so hey…I think Azubuike is a worthwhile Plan B to Brewer and risk even with his injury at worst if he’s not up to playing Von Wafer gets his minutes but if he is ready to play that is icing on the cake at this point. We lose Brewer’s size but we gain Azubuike’s offensive game and that ain’t a bad trade off. Green I think swallows up most if not all of the backup 3 minutes anyway, and Wafer and Azuibuike can spell Ray and 4 and 5 Between Krstic, Murphy, Baby and the Oneals I think that pretty much leaves the playoff minutes at all full.

    Brewer can play both 2 and 3. That’s a good insurance for the Ray/Wafer and Pierce/Green rotation. Let’s get him. He could very well be the completion of this banner #18 puzzle. :)

    brewer is young and very athletic and fast he and he can defend i have seen him play with the wolves rather have brewer than leon anyday !! poe has some real bad knees yes hes ok now and would be a fairly good fit but this brewer is the player for short term and the long term for the celts !!!

    Nick…I prefer guys that can play both sides of the equation. I’m tired of defensive role players that cannot score. That’s 1/5 of the offense every time down the court. As far as my wish to have Leon over Brewer, and only if he is healthy, is because he has a history with the Cs, won a title with the core group, and can score besides playing awesome defense and rebounding with fervor. Leon knows all the plays and was well liked by his teammates. Yes, his knees are worrisome but he did not play in Cleveland as they had too many forwards and are developing for the future after LBJ left. There was no need or reason to play him vs these other players. LP is a role player that has a champion’s pedigree and again, if healthy, should be utilized by a team capable of getting to the Finals. Go Cs…
