Shaq’s return likely pushed back, again
For the 19,056,345th time, the Boston Celtics have pushed back the date of Shaquille O’Neal’s return. (ESPN Boston)
“Shaq is probably not going to be back Wednesday, it looks like,” said Rivers. “His foot is bothering him again a little bit.”
When Danny Ainge traded Kendrick Perkins away, he gave a vote of confidence to Shaq’s health. Yet Shaq’s body refuses to respond to any treatment, and he has now missed a month straight (and, for the season, 24 of the C’s 60 games).
The Celtics can survive without Shaq during the regular season. But when size becomes magnified in the playoffs, Shaq’s presence would certainly help matters. As bad as the Orlando Magic have looked at times, the thought of Nenad Krstic defending Dwight Howard makes me want to cry.

There’s no point in rushing Shaq back. Hell, give him another month off whereby he can rehab and continue to train. I think he knows how to play and knows the Cs system from his previous play. Bring him back with 10 games left to get his wind and in sync with the core 4. We don’t need him now. Go Cs…

Maybe he’ll be up on the CTown ‘wall’ when he comes back since he is the starting center! Go Cs…

@Jay–when are going to stop with the KP sour grapes? We have already seen there is a net gain of Krstic/Green versus KP/NR.

No sour grapes. Just saying the Celtics will need Shaq, in the playoffs. Are you not at least a little concerned about Shaq’s health?

NO…not concerned. Trust me, you think Shaq isn’t doing everything he can to get ready for the playoff run knowing he’s got a 90% chance of getting to the Finals again this season? Come on Jay, have some faith brother. The Shaq-ster is going to be dancing all summer long and if we get lucky the victim will be Kobe and he’ll be tastin’ Shaq’s ass!!! Go Cs…

As long as Shaq is avoiding the triple cheeseburgers, he may be okay.

Am I the only one that saw this announcment coming? It really seems like they’re lying about Shaq’s “injury” and that he’s really just working out and trimming down.

Apparently SI feels there has been a paradigm shift in the game and that defense is no longer the primary focus. If we kept KP/NR we would have 5 injured players instead of 3. We have 2 O’Neals trying to make it back so for now we are winning with the new players with support hopefully on the way. You have to have seen in last years playoffs that Dwight Howard, when his back was against the wall, started playing punishing thug ball and that KP was weakened by the time he reached the finals. How can I be concerned when KP could not finish last year and probably will not be able to this year.

KP twisted a knee, the reason he did not play game 7, not because of Howard’s thuggish play. Put KP and Howard in a street fight, and KP would quietly beat his ass, Southern style.

It is a little naive to think that each series doesn’t take a tiring, cumulative toll on the players leaving them in a state where injuries become more likely. Once it became apparent that Orlando would lose purely on the merits DH almost turned the series by dominating the paint physically, Because it is a team game the Celtics prevailed, but they had no direct neutralizing response for DH.
