Report: Shaq receives cortisone shot, back in walking boot

To all those who believe Shaq could have returned a long time ago if he wanted to, I offer you this: Shaq received a cortisone shot in his right foot on Tuesday, and is back in a walking boot. He could still return next week, reports Chris Forsberg, although that’s what the team has maintained for the past month. (ESPN Boston)
O’Neal traveled with the team on a recently completed three-game road trip with the goal of participating in walkthrough activities as he ramped up toward game action. But the foot that has been prone to flare-ups did so again, forcing the team to aggressively attack with the injection.
A source told ESPN Boston on Wednesday that O’Neal would hopefully be back on the floor by April 1, allowing him two weeks before the end of the regular season to shake rust and get acclimated with his teammates again.
No, Shaq’s not healthy. No, he’s not just resting his 39-year old body for the playoffs. No, he’s not just chilling at home, waiting until games mean something. He’s dealing with a real foot injury, one which hasn’t gotten much (any?) better after all his time off.
I’m starting to think Jermaine O’Neal will return before Shaq does. And I promise, I never thought I’d write the previous sentence. Now, we must ask ourselves: How much can the Celtics reasonably expect out of the two injured O’Neals? And can they win a title if neither of them operate anywhere near full strength?

What the f*** is wrong with you guys? Shaq said he’d be back so I trust his take on his health. He also said he would take a shot if needed. There’s still plenty of time for him to get better. Go Cs…quit playing like f***!

This time last year, we all felt doubts… Lots of people even think we won’t get past Miami in the first round.. But what happened? The cs flipped the switch and made it all the way to the finals. Let’s all have faith in these guys

Icheer…yep, it’s too bad the Cs don’t play like Zona did tonight and kill their opponent on the boards (see what happens when you control the boards kids?) and then when they had a good lead (10 pts) they didn’t play soft, but instead put their collective foot down on the throat of Duke and snuffed’em out. What a great example of how I’d like the Cs to play every night; effort wise, as the results will not always be a win. But you’re right, they play ‘flip-the-switch’ all the time and I, too, am very confident about how they will play come the playoffs. I just get frustrated when they show no emotion or focus during the reg. season. April 16th is flip-the-switch day and it can’t get here soon enough. Go Cs…Go Wildcats!!!

James… The funny part about you saying that is as I was watching that game I was thinking when Arizona pulled down two or three straight defensive rebounds that looked impossible to get, This is exactly what James always preaches about. Too bad most people think your just a broken record. It wins games, that’s why Arizona won. In the middle of their huge run, boards was 18-5.

Nick… As a Celtic fan for life I’ve seen a lot of great teams and they all have that killer instinct, at least the ones that win the title each year. Watching that game was like watching the Cs dismantle teams (certainly the better teams his season and not the sub .500 ones) and it’s just pure hoop joy. I know this Celtics team has those characteristics as they have shown glimpses all season. I just wish they brought it each night like Zona did. The supreme joy on their players’ faces and the confidence they built upon as they believed more and more that they were the better team (especially after their monstrous dunks) was awesome to watch. It’s how I played/play in my Y games and how I look forward to the playoffs as this Cs team will flip-the-switch and perform as we know they’re capable of. I can’t wait. Good rebounding makes a difference doesn’t it? Go Cs…

Shaq will be fine. I keep saying it and I could be wrong, but I’ll bet this is all a smoke screen and Shaq is better off than the C’s are letting on.

icheer.. last year they were doing it almost on purpose and also they had no problems with chemistry. this year theyre actually trying to win for the top seed and theyre having problems with chemistry. playing with 2 new guys in their rotation and 2 guys that are supposed to be key parts to their rotation barely playing this year.. hopefully they can turn on the switch again this year and fuck shit up come playoff time.. if not im going to fucking shoot myself in the head if i have to hear the thousands or obnoxious laker fans talking shit about getting the 3peat

@rondeezy… how do you think I feel? I live out here, I don’t wanna deal with Laker fans talking about Celtics being one-n-done, the Lakers completely avenging their ’08 loss and Bynum truly being the difference. Then, yes, there’s all that 3-peat bullshit.

Well.. do we need Shaq to be a beast offensively during the playoffs or do we need him to put his big ass in the paint where the mere sight of his frame focuses the defenders and make the attackers think twice before driving to the hoop? The first is fine, but the alternative’s not so bad.
As far as JO’s concerned, he’s another body in the paint and six fresh fouls to throw at Dwight (even though it seems like we won’t play against him this spring) and Bynum/Gasol (fingers crossed).

The playoffs are going to be the best medicine for these guys and I expect to see both of them making positive contributions. Both of them are seasoned pros, effective right out of the box, who don’t need a lot of regular season time to make an impact during the playoffs. The playoff Celtics team will be a lot different than the current one.
