Adrian Wojnarowski wrote a nice piece describing how the Celtics need Shaq, but cannot possibly rely on him. Sounds about right.
I agree with everything in Woj’s piece, except:
A) His matter-of-fact declaration that Boston will finish in third place in the East. They’re still tied with Miami, right? And still haven’t lost to Miami once, so they have the tiebreaker? And still play Miami one more time, right? Okay, then I’ll at least hold out hope for the second seed, if not the first.
and B) the following Glen Davis quote: “He don’t get hurt. Shaq’s invincible, man.” Yeah, and Grizzly Adams had a beard. Wait, Grizzly Adams DID have a beard? Maybe so, but that doesn’t mean Shaq’s invincible. He actually seems quite vincible, in a way that could murder Boston’s title chances. Which sucks, because Danny Ainge is right—the Celtics have actually played better with Shaq than they did with Perk.
