Celtics play JV team, lose to Wizards; Knicks await in playoffs

Carlos Arroyo missed a potential game-winning jumper, Von Wafer did “what?” and the Boston Celtics’ JV team fell to the Washington Wizards, 95-94. The Celtics will be the Eastern Conference’s third seed, and will begin the playoffs against the New York Knicks.

Was anything from tonight important, besides the seeding confirmation? Delonte West went down with a sprained right ankle; it’s the same ankle that caused him to miss a number of games earlier this season, the same ankle that still has a chipped bone. Damn.

On a brighter note, Jeff Green had 15 rebounds (huh?), Jermaine O’Neal had 15 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks (what?), and Glen Davis scored 20 points (finally). The trainers should be busy tomorrow; Jermaine played 37 minutes, meaning he’ll likely need a full-body massage, a two-hour long acupuncture session and a dozen Advil tomorrow morning. In all seriousness, the Celtics have already decided Jermaine will skip Wednesday’s season-ending game against New York.

Just like last season, the Celtics will need to win three series on the road. Let’s hope for a different outcome this time around.

Fun game, nice to see Green and Davis play well, stinky to see West put the kaibosh on my sit Rondo theory (though I’ll be secretly pleased to see Rondo).

What we learned… the C’s bench is very good. Green can score and rebound, JO can score, rebound, and block shots, Davis found his shot but forgot to rebound, and the other members of the bench were rusty. All in all a good loss, as the starters rested and watched how a team is supposed to rebound (especially on the offensive side – 13) and the bench got valuable playing time to help their preparation for the playoffs. Hopefully, DW will be out only a short time but CA played well enough to show he can help if needed. The best thing was JO’s 37 minutes. I’m willing to bet there isn’t another bench ’5′ that could start an NBA game and come that close to beating a team playing all it’s starters and bench. We’re deep and that is going to help this team get to the Finals. Go Cs…should have played these guys a lot more during the season Doc.

James, I agree completely. It’s a shame that Von Wafer missed a free throw, lost a rebound out of bounds, missed a dunk, and flubbed a pass, all in the final minutes or OT that could have iced a win. But you’re right; he was rusty, along with others.

Hopefully this will get Green going, especially after he started out the game shooting so poorly but ended up finding his groove.

Is Doc planning the same game plan for their final game vs. the Knicks? I’d love to see the bench beat their starters.

Predictions anyone for the series against the Knicks? If the C’s are focused, I call for a sweep. If they show up in their latest zombie state, Knicks in 6. I really hope the bench helped the starters regain some focus tonight.

Jermaine O Neal is alive! He’s alive! Can he play like this vs. playoff teams? We’ll see.

I’ve never been so enthused over a loss.
