In case you missed it
Wow. But, in all honesty, Wafer had impressed me before that play.
In other news, the Boston Herald’s Gerry Callahan (who loved the Jeff Green trade when it initially happened and later said Boston should treat its last 17 games like practice) wrote a eulogy for Boston’s toughness today.

How does one write any type of meaningful article about the Cs ‘toughness’ before they’ve even played a playoff series? Reg. season games are not what defines a team’s toughness. They’ve proven they don’t really care about the reg. season. They beat the best teams pretty consistently over the course of the season when healthy and/or focused. I’m confident that team is the one that’s going to show up in the playoffs.
Jay…you should submit your resume to BH as I think there may be an opening there if this dweeb keeps writing inane articles like this one. I much prefer reading your body of work. Go Cs…

I agree with James. Callahan’s column is utter dross, particularly when I factor in his “treat the last games as practice” column. Losing a key starter at the trade and simultaneously adding a completely new bench is significant. Attempting to discount the impact that had is ludicrous on Callahan’s part.
We’ll see what happens in the playoffs. I’m still hopeful. I think Doc is doing a smart thing by resting the starters, giving the bench LOTS of playing, and looking to practice hard from Thursday to playoffs this weekend.

Omg, if one more person writes that the Celtics have proven for all time that the regular season doesn’t matter, I will bang my head on this computer until War and Peace is written on my forehead in welts. !!!
Ok, I surrender. War and Peace is now written on my forehead, and I now acknowledge that The Lemmings are right. The Celts are in great shape. Ainge is God. It has now been proven by KG and Co. that the entire season is really just a big joke. Also, a team only has to show up for the last five minutes of a game to win. Actual sustained effort NO LONGER MATTERS!!!! Yay!!
Now I need to go throw up.
I do think that Doc did the right thing by resting the team. This gives the bench a chance to strut its stuff, and cohere, while sending a message to the starters that this is your opportunity to reboot and figure things out. Good call by Doc. A better call would be for him to come clean to the team (and to the media) about how awful The Trade really was, because sometimes to take a step forward, you have to take a step back. Providing cover for Danny did a lot of harm to Doc’s credibility. Pretending that the guys have no legitimate reason to be upset insults their intelligence.
Regarding Wafer; I think that play just shows how long it’s been since Wafer was last in a game. It’s the kind of thing an ice cold player is gonna do. It just shows what a good idea it was for Doc to use the last couple of days to get everyone some playing time.

paul…maybe that’s the problem…you’re banging your head too much? While I, and everyone else, would prefer the team play hard and show up every night, as past Celtics teams did (Russell/Cowens/Bird/Lewis teams, etc.), this team for some reason plays like the season doesn’t matter. Of course it matters, as seeding matters. But I quit trying to squeeze out victories vs sub .500 teams way back in December when it became apparent this team, with all its tough talk over the last couple of years and obvious superb talent, just phones it in more times than anyone would ever want. It’s a bad habit, but it’s only so far a reg. season bad habit. So I decided not to worry about it because obviously they aren’t and focus on the games that matter – the playoffs. They’ll show up and play hard, rebound, guard the 3 line, pass better, take better shots, etc. because that’s how this team rolls. RR will be his normal self and life will be great again in C-Town. They proved it with their play vs the top teams all season until the Chicago and Miami games this past week when it was obvious they didn’t care. Having Shaq back will help. Having JO play 37 minutes and play the way he did last night speaks volumes. And even the non-rebounder JG showed he is capable of dominating the boards. Hopefully, as you stated, the starters were watching and gain new perspective. But I believe they are a light switch flipping bunch, only have to play every other day, and the good news is they don’t wait until the 4th qtr. Come playoff games they bring it from the jump ball. Go Cs…

@James, I hope you are right in regards to the C’s showing up, rebounding, passing better, guarding the 3 line, etc; however, it’s going to come down to RONDO. Bob Ryan believes it’s a personal matter in his life. Was it the loss of his friend Perkins? Was he that traumatized by it? If so, he really is a 10 year old child inside of a man’s ‘body.
In regards to Wafer: I’ve loved this guy’s style of play and have wondered all year why Doc didn’t play him more. I truly, truly, truly, believe he brings the same game, if not better, than Green, which baffles me more about the trade. Green may be bigger and better postup player, but not that much better.
I hear Ainge likes Wafer as well, so why didn’t they ever give him a chance to prove himself? You can his defense sucks, but so does Green; in fact, they play D in similar fashion (going for the block from behind, using speed to catch guys at the last moment)
But enough with the trade. If all three centers can platoon, then so be it. If Big Baby (in regards to Jay’s 6 man article) can stop taking bad shots and start playing the glass; and if RONDO shows up to play, this team has a chance. But it will take everything coming together.
Has Ubuntu died? Or will they rise to the occassion? We will soon find out.
