Doc: Shaq has shown improvement, could possibly play Sunday

UPDATE, 2:34 p.m. –”He’s going to try to [get on the court Thursday],” Rivers told reporters. “I just don’t see it. I’m just going to be a real doctor right now and say I doubt it. He’s going to try to do something [Thursday] and we’ll see.

“He’s had some improvement, but I don’t know how much. I’m just going by what [team trainer] Eddie [Lacerte] and [team physician Dr. Brian] McKeon tell me. They thought he’s had some improvement.”

At times like these, I wish the Celtics had always been forthcoming about injuries. Alas, after an earlier report Shaq might be done for the year and Doc’s subsequent optimism (of sorts), we’re right back where we were before: when we see Shaq playing, we’ll believe it. Until then, regard every report, update and rumor with skepticism.

In this case I’d say disregard that Bill Burt report, until we hear the same “Shaq is done for the year” statement from the C’s. Honestly, the only reason anyone is flipping their shit about an unverified statement like that is because of Shaq and what he means to this team going forward. Too many people are treating it like it’s an official report.

Again, until Shaq speaks and says something or shows up to play, why believe anything anyone says? Put the guns and knives down all you worriers. Go Cs…

I BELIEVE NOTHING UNTIL THE CELTICS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE HE IS OUT FOR THE SEASON. THE SMELLS OF SOMEONE TRYING TO BREAK A STORY THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT,

Doc would be a great coach if he’d stop being a mouthpiece for Ainge. If Shaq miraculously returns, great. But anyone counting on that just because of Doc’s mumbling is someone who confuses delusion with loyalty.

Let me lay this out for those of you who can’t think thing through for yourselves, because your minds are befogged with the notion that being credulous is the same as ‘keeping the faith’ and ‘being loyal’: Ainge and Doc have told us over and over and over now that Shaq is on the verge of returning. They’ve been wrong over and over again. If you assume that they were saying all that in good faith, you need to explain why they didn’t realize, after two or at most three repetitions, that they should just say ‘he’ll come back if and when he comes back” and leave it at that? Because for the normal, honest person, to keep repeating something that you know probably won’t be true is LYING.

And yes, we’ve seen them do this before. We saw it before earlier this year with JO. We saw it two years ago with Garnett. There’s a point at which it’s just not credible to claim that hardnosed realists like Ainge and Doc are being pollyanna, demonstrating an excess of optimism. There’s a point, long since past, where we have to acknowledge that they are liars.

I hope Shaq does return. We can use anything he can give us. But our hopes rest with the Big Three and Rondo.

Whatever, Paul. The JO situation was completely different as HE DID MAKE IT BACK ONTO THE COURT, unlike KG in ’09. It’s clear that management just weren’t sure what course of action to tak with JO’s knee as it was in the middle of the season and surgery could have been a season ending procedure… as they told us at the time.

KG’s injury was far more severe than Shaq’s is and they’ve been completely up front with the media about Shaq recently, even having the team physician descrive exactly what’s going on with his leg and why it’s taking so long to heal.

You sound like a paranoid talking about government conspiracies. We’re befogged? Are you kidding me? Come one man, chill out.

    In case you missed it:

None of you guys are afraid that the Celtics ALWAYS lie about injuries, slash keep information from us? I’m not saying they are or aren’t now, but they have a long history of BS’ing us.

Why anyone would believe anything any coach or GM says is beyond me. They all play games and are constantly seeking an ‘edge’ vs their opponent or even perceived opponent (as during draft time). Once something is a fact then I am more likely to take them at their word when they are interviewed, but never beforehand. That’s a losing game. Go Cs…
