Video: Celtics-Knicks game story

Comcast has started a new feature called “Game Story,” a video summary of each game including player quotes and game highlights. Good, entertaining stuff.

Yeah, these are great! Watched one the other day for the first time and was actually pretty impressed. Reminds me of a similar video series on NBA.com. Cutting together pre/post-game interviews with that excellent footage from the games makes for a very cinematic experience.

It’s amazing to me that Lemming-like Celtic fans are soooooo proud of the fact that their team can ‘flip the switch’. So y’all think we have a championship sewn up now, huh? Hell, why even play the rest of the playoffs? The switch is flipped and now we can all go home! Why we are champions already! :)

Back in reality world, all the Cs did was win one series. Now they face a series, probably with the Heat, where they probably won’t have home court, against a team loaded with three of the best players on the planet. But hey, we ‘flipped the switch’, so now we are A-U-T-O-M-A-T-I-C, right? Probly sweep the Heat too…

Paul… Agreed. In my opinion, the series with the Knicks was by no means impressive. The entire series should have been like the games in MSG. The only reason we blew ‘em out those two games was because they had a star and a half. Amare was ailing and Billups out, they didn’t even dismantale the real Knicks. They barely beat the Knicks in game two with JUST Melo for most of the game. If they treat Wade or Lebron how they treated Melo in game two, they’re screwed. And I’m sure they feel mighty good about themselves. ” Hell we were the only team to pull off a sweep in the first round!” I’m not too sure about the Heat series…. Best of luck to ‘em though. Go C’s.

Celtics fans seem to have gone from somber to crazily overconfident. I sure hope the team isn’t following the same mood-swing trajectory. All the Knicks series showed us is that the Cs are dialed in to these playoffs. They are present, and they want to win. That’s good. We didn’t know if they had that in them two weeks ago. In particular, the Knicks series showed us that Rondo is present. We sure didn’t know if that was going to be a possibility two weeks ago. And JO is holding up, so far. So there are reasons to be hopeful.

But the Celtics must approach the Heat (one presumes) series as if it were the championship round. Whether or not the Heat deserve their hype, one thing MUST be recognized: they are powerful, very powerful, precisely where the Celtics have an achilles heel. The matchup between their power and the Celtics’ weakness is precise.

To wit: both teams have a Big Three. The Celtics Big Three is very old. Yes, they are in great shape for oldsters, without a doubt. But they ARE old. The Heat Big Three? They are the very epitome of youth and power. One could not have a more classic case of the Young Lions vs the Old Lions. The Old Lions are rich in experience, and this can give them the victory, but ONLY if they play their game, and we have seen over and over and over and over again that the Celtics cannot resist any excuse to quit playing Celtics ball. The defense sags. The offense becomes lethargic. Rondo falls asleep. Garnett and Pierce start playing heroball. Remember what the Knicks did to us over a ten minute period in game four, just two days ago? Remember how we melted like an ice cream cone thrown into a furnace, until we remembered to play our game? Now imagine the Heat shredding us FAR more devastatingly, when our focus weakens, and imagine our defense NOT being able to regain control, even after it’s been switched back on. The Heat are fully capable of running us out of any game, and running us out of the series. We win, ONLY if we are able to sustain our determination to win, and our focus. If we do that, we WILL win. But it won’t be so easy to do and to sustain.

Rondo and JO/Krstic/Shaq(?) will be our difference makers, if we are to win, along with Jeff Green. Yes, I think this series will be Jeff Green’s breakout time. I suspect that he and Rondo will be working very closely together in practice to get on the same page, along with Delonte. They have to start ‘feeling’ each other, getting that third sense awareness for each other.

For the Cs to win, they will have to control the tempo – and NO, that does NOT mean walking it up constantly, Rondo!!!!; as we saw against the Knicks, part of controlling the tempo is being able to stick in a dagger in transition, when opportunity presents itself. For that to happen consistently, the Cs really need Green to come alive as finisher. As awful as The Trade was, it did give us Green, and now is a good time for Green to flourish. He can really be a hero in this series.

But, ultimately, the stage is well and truly set for Rondo. This is a key moment for Rondo’s career. As the current rises, and the stage is crowded with the likes of Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, the spotlight will be on Rajon Rondo.

The light switch is definitely back on. They will bring their ‘power’ as they know this is the team they have to really focus on. The games should be more half court with tighter defense on each and every possession. If they stop the unnecessary double-teaming and help when appropriate, guard the 3-line better, and continue to rebound like they’ve discovered it can lead to easier offense and less shots for their opponent then this should be a great series. C’s in 6. Great analysis post paul…and no mention of you know what! Go Cs…
