Today

“At this point, if you’re not motivated you need to go home and get a Bud Light or something and let the good times roll. I think everyone’s motivated. In this type of intense competition you try to find any edge you can get over your opponent, you take it.” — Delonte West

Nice video. Today, the Celtics vs. Miami is the biggest stage in the world, and on that stage, standing squarely in the spotlight is on one Rajon Rondo.

Perk and Ibaka need to figure out a better way vs the Grizzlies, especially Perkins.

paul…This is a Celtics post not a memorial to Perk. And D Wade is the best player in the series and who I’d start a team with today in regards to your post yesterday. That said, the Cs need to stop the double teaming and leaving Jones alone on the 3 line (4-5 in the half). Otherwise, it’s pretty much as I expected and we’re winning the boards. But PP needs to wake up and stop dribbling off his feet and the refs are giving some good home cooking but it’s that 3 line killing the Cs so far. Go Cs…are you pissed yet boys???

Need to get Perk of the damn Celtics wall as his presence is fuel for all the Perk talk and it’s cursing the Cs. So are the Heat refs, apparently on loan from the Lakers, as PP did nothing and that was that for this game. Go Cs…

If I were to try to offer some thoughts on why this happened, other than the Heat are awesome, and the Celtics other-than-awesome, it would probably be that I have the impression that Doc, so well known for designing plays, did not have much of a gameplan.

That and I hope Rondo doesn’t let his poor game get to him. Yes, this is the third game in a row where a strong team has TOTALLY had his number. Chicago, Heat, Heat. The only way to deal with that is to come back stronger, more determined and smarter.

Now, how do I wash my brain out?

If they guard the 3 line, win the rebounding (39-39 isn’t good enough), and STOP the double teaming (so Jones isn’t free all day) and we have PP for the full game then we should win Game 2 as as bad as it was stacked against the Cs today they only lost by 9 pts and were definitely in the game. RR will be fine. RR, next time don’t foul LBJ so you pick up the early foul. Go Cs…got some bad blood brewing so it’s gonna be very interesting Tuesday. I expect PP to go off major like Wade did today. Go Cs…again!!!

I agree with you on one thing: to get beaten as badly as that and only actually lose by 9 points is amazing. Other than that, I think your take is pollyanna to the extreme. This isn’t a matter of tinkering a bit here, tidying up a bit there. It’s primarily a matter of the Celtics being totally unready for this game, and considering that they came out with a strong defensive effort, I blame it on Doc. They did not have an offensive game plan, or let’s say, not a good one. Look at Rondo’s stat line. 7 assists? You can almost always tell how well the Celtics are playing by Rondo’s assists. We need him over ten assists. I blame Rondo as well as Doc. How the offense runs is largely his responsibility.

The only feel good thing to take from this game is that we only got beat by 9 points. If I were the Heat, I wouldn’t be feeling very good about that.

Guys, please be kind to each other. You can disagree with each other’s opinions without making it personal. As James said earlier, we’re starting to develop a community of sorts here in the comment section. Let’s all be friends, even if today really, really sucked.

paul…stick around but just drop the Perk talk. Maybe Jay will change the wall before Tuesday’s game. Everyone chill we’re going to be fine and still win in 6 games or less. That said, RR had 0 first half assists because they shot 25% in the 1st qtr (not his fault, although he was 0-4…RA – 3 KG -1 and GD – 1 were the only made baskets). RR then got into foul trouble and only played 1 minute of the 2nd qtr with 3 fouls and DW was doing OK. The lack of offensive rebounding after Celtic shots was by far a bigger problem. How many times was JO or RR alone and no other Celtic anywhere near the key? Considering the lack of calls for the Cs and everything else, I feel damn good and really do not fear the Heat at all. Yeah, for the C-Town community!!! Go Cs…

It’s one game. It’s not the series. They played their worse game possible and only lost by 9 pts.

The refs are not why they lost but the flagrant on O Neal resulted in a 5 pt possession after Bibby hit the 3. That, plus the ejection of Pierce were momentum killers.

But the C’s obviously need to come out with a different approach in so many ways. As James said, they left the 3 shooters wide open. How many times did we see Jones getting free looks? And on offense, they can’t keep driving the lane against the swarm of defenders. The Heat are too athletic and will keep ejecting shots. The C’s need to whip the ball around and knock down open shots. Too much dribbling today in the first half especially.

Green doesn’t suck. He just needs to stop forcing things that aren’t there.

Next game will say a lot. Will the C’s bring it or not? I say they do. I believe they will make the adjustments. And Pierce couldn’t have a worse first half than today. It won’t happen again.

    C’s in six games.

PS, and since you guys are talking about Perkins still, let’s talk about that former Celtic on Memphis. Tony Allen, he’s the guy I really miss. That crazy mo-fo is all over the court, wreaking havoc on his opponents.

TA was a big part of the reason they beat the Spurs in Game 7 and he made some things happen today as well.

All the talk about Perkins, yet people have forgotten the defensive edge that TA gave us. But yeah, I don’t miss his stupid plays on offense or his low basketball IQ.

Next game is a must win.

celts will have a hard time winning a game this series with jones pumping in 25… with that beings said i think its an easy fix—dont leave him alone at the three cant leave him to double…. let lbj and wade get their 30-35 points each. shut down jones and keep bosh in check somewhere under 2o and the celts should be able to find enough offense to win games… for game two i would look for rondo to stay aggressive but in a distributing way. kg to be more envovled, and for PP to clean up in turnovers and take what is given to him. I think guarding lbj takes a toll on pierce offense he needs to just let that come to him and not try to force it. .. i didnt like this game, though the heat out played and really threw the first punch throughout …. with that being said the celts kept in close make runs many times that kept me believing they may steal the game… stay positive its one game and it is on their court… sseries dont start till someone beats the other on their floor ….

The Heat made tons of shots… it’s not like the drove to the basket with ease. D Wade scored 38,he won’t average that. They didn’t kill us on the boards and didn’t kill us in fast break points. Sometimes a team wins because they made shots.. if we continue to keep Bosh in check, hold LeBron and Wade in the twenties we will be fine.. but we can’t let anyone off their bench score 25 points. We can play a better… especially Rondo. Maybe we see Shaq Tuesday.
