Bill Russell statue will honor legacy of greatest winner in sports history

Fast payday loans For Every One

Bill Russell finally got his statue.  Amen.

“I am uncomfortable with honors such as this but my years as Captain of the Boston Celtics were the proudest moments of my career,” Boston Celtics Legend Bill Russell said. “Mayor Menino’s Boston has proven to be a City that embraces the diverse contributions of all its people and neighborhoods. I am thankful to the Celtics and all the contributors for the effort to create such a wonderful Mentoring program.”

Russell deserves a statue, and with a huge thanks to Paul Flannery, he will finally be turned into stone. That sounds weird, kind of like I’m comparing him to those falling blocks in Super Mario Brothers 3 or something. Maybe I should just say “he will now be immortalized forever.” A little better, don’tcha think?

Congrats, Bill. But we weren’t going to forget you anyway.

Off topic; I agree with many points in this article …

    http://www.masslive.com/celtics/index.ssf/2011/05/celtics_have_abandoned_proven.html

… but I disagree with a couple of points. This comment, for example, …

“Normally, the Celtics would burn these overly aggressive defensive rotations, but the Heat got away with this gamble because of their blinding team speed.”

… is only partially right. Yes, the Heat have a lot of speed, and recover well, really well, but the Celtics have failed to respond aggressively against it. Garnett, in particular, seems somehow stunned against the Heat. Admittedly, the Heat came out even stronger than was expected against the Celtics, but did anyone really expect them to be like the Knicks?

There is also this quote in a photo caption …

“Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo has been unable to penetrate in the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Heat.”

… but I don’t think that’s quite true either. I think Rondo HAS been able to penetrate, and has done so increasingly. In fact, he seems to be getting his bearings against the Heat gradually, figuring out how to break them down, etc.. If the Big Three follow his lead, then I think we could see this series turn around.

Big Baby may not be our best player by any means, and maybe he wasn’t the one who should have been taking shots during a key 4th quarter stretch (and maybe Doc should have gotten Rondo back to the floor quickly during that stretch, instead of sitting on him), but I think the rest of the Cs can learn something from Baby’s attitude. We may lose to the Heat, or maybe we can win, but either way, let’s play aggressive. Maybe we want to be smarter than Davis sometimes is, but he seems fearless at times, and we need some of that.

But yes, I think Garnett/Rondo give and go, pick and pop, is highly called for. Those two guys have an offensive chemistry that is key for the Cs, especially now, with the Celtics needing to establish themselves inside.
