Folks seem determined to trade Rondo, and really interested in Chris Paul. I don’t get it. Rondo is so clearly an evolutionary player, someone with blazing potential, someone Satch Sanders compared to Bill Russell (and it’s not like he’s the only oldtimer who has gone gaga over Rondo); why would folks want to trade him? My only concern with Rondo is that he rest his body this summer, WHILE working on his shooting. Hard. Working very hard on his shooting.

If he can come back in the fall with Rondo healthy, and shooting better, God help the rest of the league. The Heat knew about Rondo. That’s why Wade took him out. I think that folks who really know the game know that if Rondo ever develops as a scorer, Katy bar the door…

Rondo’s not going anywhere, ever. And that includes if he never becomes the jump shooter we all wish for. He is perfect for the Cs style of play and legacy. Paul is not an upgrade by any means. More on Doc later as I’ve too much survival work to do. I’m OK with this as long as…. Go Cs…

No, James, without better shooting and scoring ability, Rondo isn’t good enough for any team with championship hopes. This is a threshold for him. He has to carry a much bigger load next year, and he has to be able to break down the Rondo Defense. But I agree with you that Paul would not be an upgrade. What Rondo has in potential, Paul will never know.

But now is the time for potential to explode into reality.

And finally someone in the media is telling it straight about The Trade:

    http://bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/celtics/view.bg?articleid=1337645&format=&page=2&listingType=celt#articleFull

Now consider that the Celtics players understood all this just as many of us did as soon as The Trade happened, and I think you will understand better why this team lost heart.

paul…excuse me but Rondo has a ring with a championship team; might have had a second if KG wasn’t injured the next year; would have had a second definitely and maybe a third if Perk wasn’t injured in last year’s Finals, and might have had a 4th this season if he wasn’t injured. That’s a pedigree that no other guard in the league has other than old Derek Fisher. What are you smoking when you come up with this stuff??? And go read the comments under that article as most believe Borges theory is b.s. As do I. More later. Go Cs…

Wait, James, you already argued that Perk was not the reason that the Cs lost game 7 after giving us his stats in the Finals last year.

And I have to agree with Paul on this one: If Rondo does not develop a jump shot, he is not going be the legend people are making him. Teams are sagging off him, and unlike years before, the Big 3 are not able to score like they were, which means Rondo has to do more.

And if he can’t make free throws, then why drive the lane? He’s not a threat. He admitted not driving the lane against the Lakers in game 7 b/c he’d been struggling at the line in games prior. Until he can make elbow jumpers and FTs consistently, he’s nowhere near the player D Rose is.

And last but not least: Is Rondo going to be injury prone the rest of his career? How many injuries did he have this year? I’ve lost count. The elbow thing was a freak accident (yes, Paul, Wade pushed him down, but still……). But aside from the elbow, he has feet and back problems. Are they going to heal and go away forever? I’m not so sure….

Chris H…you are incorrect and I will always argue that Game 7 was winnable without Perk. Gasol shoved Rondo on a rebound at the 1:43 mark of the 4th and got 2 fts which was potentially a 4 pt swing. The Laker refs took that game (and series) from the Cs. But I’ve never said Perk would not have helped in that game or Game 6 as he was a member of the team and averaged 5.8 pts and 5.8 rebs in that series until those last 2 games when we got nothing due to his injury. So even if he only got those stats we likely win despite the Laker refs. You can dream about other PGs but I will wager Rondo will be with the Cs until he retires. Doc is a ‘guard’s’ coach as that was his position and it’s his mentality. He loves Rondo as does DA; another guard. And this leads to the rebounding problem because Doc coaches as a guard not as a frontline player and understanding the value of out rebounding your opponent. If he did then the Cs wouldn’t be next to last in that stat. Go Cs…

You are stupid if you want Rando traded, come to your senses people if it wasnt for Rando we wouldnt be in the Finals last year, he was clearly the best player of that postseason, Randos great just because Celts failed this year doesnt mean we have to turn our backs on them, its life it happens we have to support them every way!

Yeah, please, I read “Trade Rondo” all over the Boston Globe forums and it kills me. Despite his wretched shooting he’s clearly a once-in-a-lifetime talent and his intangibles are off the scale. It would kill me to see him in another jersey.

I agree with you Brad about Rondo, but I’m more and more convinced that Rondo is very much on the trading block. For one thing, I think Danny is a compulsive gambler. For another, I think his carrying on about how fabulous Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic are means either that he is trying to snow the rest of the league about them, or that he is surprisingly clueless about talent … or that he is firmly committed to doubling down on past mistakes. And if that’s where he’s going with this, then I don’t see him sticking with Rondo.

Also, if the Cs were serious about building with Rondo, we’d be hearing about the importance of him working on his shooting this summer. We all know now how crucial this really is, for his future and for the team. If they aren’t talking about this, then they aren’t planning on keeping him.

resign delonte, green and sign nene / chandler / david west. chandler would put us over the top on defense but we’d still be having those offensive droughts that west or nene can help, esp west. guys pure offense. id love to see rondo throwing alley oops to chandler all day tho..

There is no way in hell the Mavs are going to let Chandler go. No way. I don’t know about David West… Nene, I’m not sure about either. I think Denver will try to keep him. Unless we trade for any of those three, I don’t see the celtics getting any o em.

Rondo had a horribly disappointing season guys. Let’s not forget. Remember all the talk: Was it injury or the loss of his friend Perkins or something in his persona life, or all of the above? Until he develops a jump shot, he’s going to be stopped more and more by teams sagging off him. And he should be shooting at least 70 percent from the line. Period.

I love Rondo’s wizard-like aspects to the game, and I’d hate to see him traded; yet he needs to do some real soul searching in the off season. And let his body repair.

James, my apologies re: Perk/Game 7. Your points are taken. And let’s not forget that Ray Allen missed a lot of open 3s in that game that would have sealed it.

The Lakers will always have the refs, for whatever reason.

I do believe the C’s can contend with Miami and Chicago next year, if they can put the pieces together, building around the Big 3, and Rondo gets a jumpshot.

A lot of people would argue he lost 18 this season with the trade. I don’t personally believe that, but I know that a lotta people would say so. And I think that he’ll retool the bench with some young-ish talent through signings/free agency. Young center please… Maybe a potential spark for the bench, or acquire a solid starting SG and have Ray Ray be sixth man, a role I think is perfec for him at this stag of his career. And if he believes it is for the betterment of the team, he won’t complain. And he doesn’t have the ego that would prevent him for being successful in the role. I’d lime to see that happen, and I think that will raise banner 18,

You are sooooo right, James. It’s nothing but a conspiracy theory to think that The Trade was sheer insanity, or that Danny Ainge is a compulsive gambler and liar. For example, when Danny tells us that the doctors assured him that Shaq was fine, we should believe that, despite Shaq’s age, and size, and extensive recent history of injury problems (and like any responsible doctor would actually say that, given all that background!). Yes, it’s always important to believe whatever lies anyone in an official position shoves down one’s throat.

It’s amazing to me how people believe whatever rot is being hyped. The current wave of NBA hype maintains that the NBA is now an “athletic” league!!!! Isn’t this bs amazing? When was the NBA not an athletic league? Let’s see; clearly Memphis beat OKC last night because they are more athletic than OKC (!), rather than because they wanted it more, and because the refs let Zach Randolph bull his way through any defender with no concern whatsoever that any foul might be called on him. Dirk Nowitski – now there’s a skywalking mega-dunker for ya!

So yes, rather than recognize that the Celtics lost to the Heat because they had lost some of the qualities and players that set them apart (cohesion, desire, focus, Perkins), let’s just BELIEVE that they lost because, all of a sudden, only athleticism matters!!!

And let’s not think about how insulting it is to players like Wade and Lebron and Rose and Durant to attribute their accomplishments to athleticism. If you watch those guys, you see that they are young, and athletic of course, and VERY skilled. But let’s just obsess about their athleticism, because yeah, it’s important to swallow the hype down, when it’s given to us. It’s important that we don’t think for ourselves and never question our superiors. A team doesn’t need good players, motivated players, smart players. Nope, just athletes. Jeff Green; there’s an athlete. Why he must have just staggering potential. I mean, he doesn’t seem like anything more than potentially a nice player, possibly, but he’s athletic, and we now know that athleticism is what it’s all about, so clearly, he is a budding superstar.

And yeah, raging nepotism has nothing to do with Danny hiring his own son. And the fact that Doc Rivers chose to shill The Trade for Danny had nothing whatever to do with the amazingly sweet new deal he just got. And yes, Danny talks up Jeff Green because he really is JUST SUCH AN AMAZING PLAYER!!!! And Perkins contract had nothing to do with The Trade (though Ainge admitted that it did, but we’ll just conveniently forget that one, like the good little drones we are). And Nenad Krstic really is also an great talent for the Celtics future (and Perkins is a scrub – don’t forget that one)!!!!

It’s so nice when one just lets the media and those in officialdom tell one what to think. So so nice. So easy.

YAY DANNY. We worship you Danny! Until you are no longer the high mucky muck. Then we’ll talk crap about you. But right now, we worship you.

Here’s a little measure of what a liar Danny is : in a recent interview, he said with one breath that the Perkins trade didn’t hurt the Celtics, and with another breath he says that we were hurt by having old, hurting centers and that we need a young center.

    !!!!

I mean, that’s audacity for you. But it doesn’t seem to matter. Danny knows he has only to speak, and whatever he says will be repeated like Truth by the various media hypsters, ‘specially if Doc, whom the hypesters like, backs him up, and that most folks just won’t bother to think for themselves.

paul… DA couldn’t help the injuries, which no one can, and the injury bug hit not just Shaq and JO but also Rondo who is quite young. Injuries happen and they suck during the playoffs. I don’t think DA’s comments about Shaq returning were out of line. Everyone expected his return, even Shaq as he stated so. Problem was he’s got an injury that just needed more time to heal. Of all the Cs I believe Shaq is hurting more because he came to the Cs to win rings, not one but two. As you know, the start of the season proved how good we could be but also that Perk could be moved as we had no bench. And the Cs could not pay Perk what he wanted and was certainly not worth. You and I will argue the merits of the trade forever and we’ll never see eye to eye as you believe Perk was a center ‘god’ and I think he was very mediocre (kind of how he’s playing now for OKC – 2 games fouled out, one game of dbl digit rebs and averaging less than 5 pts per game). Injuries, and the ejection to PP killed our playoff hopes. I also don’t believe what coaches, GMs etc. say because it is always self-serving and is generally said to not give any opponent an advantage or advance knowledge. But I would rather DA say what he said about Shaq so that other teams need to prepare for that. And I NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER would want him or Doc to say a trade was bad (which you continually advocate for). What exactly would that accomplish??? If a trade is bad, and I will defend this trade forever, then the way to announce that it’s bad is to move the players received and than maybe say things did not work out. Nothing more. Why give anyone ammunition to use against the team, organization or business and game strategies? Just do yourself a favor and take anything said with grain of salt and you’ll be able to deal with it better. Go Cs…
